About East Close Barn

East Close Barn is a beautifully converted stone barn with far-reaching views over the unspoilt hills of Coverdale in the Yorkshire Dales. This peaceful, two-bedroom retreat is ideal for up to four guests and offers a warm, inviting space for walkers, cyclists, and anyone craving fresh air, green hills, and quiet. Inside, you’ll find beamed ceilings, flagstone floors with underfloor heating, and a well-equipped kitchen for self-catering. Two comfortable sofas and a dining area provide space to gather, while the large windows let the light - and the landscape - spill in. A private entrance, off-road parking, and free WiFi complete the picture of comfort and calm. It's a dream cottage for a self-catering break in the Dales, but only a 20-minute walk from the Thwaite Arms pub.

Step outside and you’re immersed in nature. Surrounded by rolling pasture, ancient woodland and moorland trails, East Close Barn offers a perfect base to explore Coverdale, Wensleydale, Swaledale, and Nidderdale AONB. Walk straight from the door or explore nearby highlights like Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, and the flower-filled limestone pavements of Malham Cove. For local food and supplies, head to Leyburn, just 20 minutes away, where you’ll find the popular Campbells of Leyburn, an award-winning food and wine emporium, alongside independent cafés, shops and galleries. The Thwaite Arms is a short walk or drive away, and the Foresters Arms in Carlton serves hearty meals in a traditional Dales pub setting.

Further afield, visit the atmospheric ruins of Jervaulx Abbey, take a tour of Theakston’s or Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, or hop on the Wensleydale Railway for a scenic heritage journey through the Dales. The area is also a haven for wildlife, with curlews, hares and nesting birds frequently seen nearby. After a day exploring, return to East Close Barn for a long soak in the bath, an evening walk under big skies, or a night by the fire with nothing but the sound of the wind in the trees. Whether you’re here for adventure or rest, this quiet corner of Yorkshire offers space to simply be.
