Tides Reach is a substantial Victorian holiday cottage in Filey, barely 500 yards from the soft sands of Filey Bay. This self-catering accommodation sleeps 13 guests across seven bedrooms by combining period character with contemporary comforts. Two dogs are welcome at no extra charge, making this dog-friendly holiday rental an excellent choice for bringing the whole family. With four bathrooms, including two with baths, there’s no morning queue for the shower, and the large kitchen and dining area mean you can actually cook and eat together rather than taking shifts. The bedroom configuration is three with king-size beds, one double, two twins, and a single, giving you plenty of flexibility for different group makeups. On Melville Terrace, you’re only a few minutes’ walk from Filey’s seafront, shops and pubs.
The heart of Filey is a short walk away. This traditional Victorian seaside resort has retained its charm, with independent shops, family-run cafés, proper fish-and-chip restaurants, and local pubs like The Boat Shed and The Star Inn. Down at Coble Landing, you can still watch fishing boats coming in with their catch, whilst the promenade winds past play parks, paddling pools, and Glen Gardens. Ice cream parlours and amusement arcades add to the seaside feel, and The Belle Vue overlooks the bay if you fancy a drink with a view. Filey hasn’t been overdeveloped like some coastal towns – it’s got that unspoilt quality that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back to simpler times. The bay itself stretches for five miles, and at low tide the beach seems to go on forever. It’s the sort of place where you can let children run free, build enormous sandcastles, and actually relax without constantly worrying about crowds. Dogs are welcome on most of the beach year-round, with only a small section restricted during peak summer months.
From here you can explore that glorious stretch of sandy beach, walk out to the dramatic Filey Brigg headland where seabirds nest, or hunt for fossils in the rock pools at low tide – it’s a proper treasure hunt that keeps kids entertained for hours. The Cleveland Way passes through town, offering spectacular coastal walks in both directions. Head north towards Scarborough or south towards Flamborough Head, both routes giving you those big Yorkshire Coast views that make the climb worthwhile. Filey Dams Nature Reserve is worth a visit if you’re into birdwatching, while the Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park makes a good family day out when you need a break from the beach. A bit further afield, the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery at Hunmanby runs tours and tastings, Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve is famous for its puffins and gannets (spring and early summer are best for viewing), and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers steam train journeys through beautiful countryside. Scarborough and Whitby are both within easy reach for day trips. This holiday cottage in Filey gives you plenty of options, whether you want to explore the coast or relax at the seaside.
