About Melrose Cottage

Melrose Cottage is a charming village property in Wass in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, within walking distance of the 17th-Century Stapylton Arms pub. The beautifully refurbished three-bedroom cottage sleeps up to six guests and is ideal for families and friends, and because well-behaved pets are welcome, the whole family can enjoy a holiday together.

Wass is a peaceful village that is within a few miles of Thirsk and Helmsley. The surrounding countryside is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, with rolling hills and beautiful views stretching as far as the eye can see. Nearby, the majestic ruins of Byland Abbey make the ideal spot to enjoy a relaxed picnic and those who appreciate old buildings will enjoy a visit to Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle and the Roman site at Aldborough. The ancient city of York is a fascinating mix of old and new and easily driveable in under an hour for a fun-filled day of shopping and sightseeing.

The North York Moors is a landscape everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. It is vast and wild, with enormous views that linger in memory long after a holiday is over. Melrose Cottage is in the south-west of the national park on the border with the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and close to Sutton Bank and its famous White Horse. There are miles of designated footpaths, cycling routes and mountain bike trails that make it easy to reach views that are inaccessible in a car. In addition to moorland and countryside, Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast is just over an hour's drive from the cottage, opening up a different type of view altogether.

Yorkshire's food is as good as any you will enjoy in the UK, with an excellent pub in the village and top rated inn a walk away at Byland Abbey all serving delicious menus using local ingredients.and no shortage of local cafes for coffee and a slice of cake ! The kitchen at Melrose Cottage is well-equipped for self-catering with produce available at local shops, delis and farmers' markets, including the Helmsley Artisan Food Market held on the last Friday of the month.

Melrose Cottage is a comfortable home-away-from-home in every season, with a large garden and patio for warm months and a woodburning stove in the sitting room for cosy winter nights in.
