Whitewell Cottage is in the perfect location for exploring the stunning Ribble Valley as it is close to the River Ribble and the Forest of Bowland National Landscape. Ribchester is only half-a-mile away so guests can walk to cafes, pubs, the village shop and a playground. The cottage has been beautifully designed specifically with wheelchair users in mind and has two lovely bedrooms and far-reaching countryside views, giving it wide appeal and making it a firm favourite with couples, friends and families.
The Ribble Valley is incredible, with fells, rivers, mountains and views that will take your breath away in every season. Staying in Ribchester means you have good access to some of the region's best-loved footpaths, including the way-marked Tolkein Trail, named for the author who was so inspired by the landscape. Stroll beside the River Ribble or climb to the summit of Longridge Fell, which is the most southerly fell in England and only a few miles from the cottage. The Forest of Bowland is popular with both walkers and mountain bikers, while the sweeping roads are a favourite with road cyclists who relish the challenge. Bowland Fell is close by, and there are also lovely walks around Whalley Abbey and alongside the River Calder.
Longridge is the nearest town to Whitewell Cottage, with three supermarkets and a vintage cinema. Whalley has a church dating back to 628CE, a ruined abbey, and wine bars as a sophisticated alternative to the local pub. Clitheroe is about a 20-minute drive from the cottage, offering a variety of independent shops and a market every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Clitheroe Castle is a popular tourist attraction and an excellent spot to sit and admire panoramic views over the countryside. For those happy to travel further afield, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks are within easy reach by car for a day trip, opening up an even larger choice of attractions and opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Whitewell Cottage is entirely self-contained and private. It can be booked on its own or together with one of the other high-quality eco-friendly cottages at Ribble Valley Holiday Homes. If you are in the area for a special event like a wedding or milestone birthday, Hidden Oaks is onsite, which is home to a wedding and events venue as well as a spa and pool.
