Sherburne Cottage is an eco-friendly house in the stunning Ribble Valley, only half a mile from Ribchester and a 10-15 minute stroll from the village shop, playground, cafes and pubs. There is space for up to four people to sleep in two bedrooms, with a light, open-plan layout that is ideal for families or couples.
The Ribble Valley is so spectacular that you won't be able to resist getting out into the countryside to enjoy it, whether on foot or from the saddle. There is an extensive network of footpaths including a seven-mile circular route that goes around the village and offers unforgettable views in every season. Other local trails lead to favourite beauty spots like Saddle Fell, Fair Snape Fell and Hazlehurst Fell. Nearby riding stables can arrange guided treks over the moors and along country lanes - some of which were the preferred training routes for Sir Bradley Wiggins when he was cycling professionally. Mountain bikers also love this part of England for the excellent trails, including fantastic ones in the nearby Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are several excellent golf courses and putting ranges within only a few miles, while anglers will be happy to fish for dace, grayling and trout in the River Ribble.
For those happy to travel further afield, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks are within easy reach by car for a day trip, opening up an even larger choice of attractions and opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Ribchester is a gorgeous village with lots to offer visitors including a Roman Museum with information about some of the area's earliest permanent long-term residents. About a 10-minute drive from the cottage, Longridge has two supermarkets and other food shops as well as a vintage cinema with all the character and charm that faceless chain cinemas lack. Spend a happy few hours wandering around Whalley, admiring its ancient church which dates back to 628CE and which is close to the romantic ruins of a Cistercian abbey. Alternatively, drive 20-minutes to Clitheroe and browse its shops and market stalls before walking to Clitheroe Castle which sits above the town and provides panoramic views over the Ribble Valley.
There is always something fun for guests to enjoy whether its a new footpath or a local attraction like Stonyhurst Cottage, Beacon Fell, Brockholes Nature Reserve, or Mrs Dowson's Open Farm. Sherburne Cottage is one of a collection of beautiful cottages expertly managed by Ribble Valley Holiday Homes. It is entirely self-contained and private and can be booked on its own or together with other cottages to accommodate bigger groups of friends and extended families. Please see the owner's website for information.
