The Cowshed is in a delightfully secluded part of the Brendon Hills in Somerset, on a family run farm close to Watchet. The owners have taken an unassuming farm building and transformed it into a romantic escape where couples can relax and unwind in luxury. The cottage is dog-friendly with easy access to beautiful footpaths and cycling routes, as well as only a mile from the friendly Raleghs Cross Inn for nights when you want to eat out but don't want to go far.
Not only do guests have the Brendon Hills to explore, but the rest of Exmoor National Park and the neighbouring Quantock Hills AONB are also nearby with miles of footpaths and mountain bike trails taking explorers to breathtaking views of the coast and countryside. The long-distance Coleridge Way is also nearby, and if you want to give your feet a rest then there is a choice of local riding schools and stables where you can arrange a horse ride through the landscape. Two excellent routes on a clear day are to Wheddon Cross, which is famous for its annual display of snowdrops, or Dunkery Beacon, which is the highest point on Exmoor.
Only a mile from the cottage, Clatworthy Reservoir is perfect for fishing, while Wimbleball Lake offers sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and stand-up paddle-boarding as well as footpaths, bike routes and areas for playing and picnics.
You will certainly want to visit the welcoming town of Watchet, where there is always something going on. Sit by the marina and watch the boats as they come and go, or browse the shops and boutiques before enjoying a restorative pot of tea or pint of Somerset cider. As well as having a stop on the historic West Somerset Railway, Watchet has two museums showcasing a history that dates back well over a millennium. Other places to shop and explore include Wiveliscombe and Taunton.
A self-catering cottage holiday in Somerset is the perfect way to reconnect with your partner and the owners of The Cowshed have created a wonderful environment with great attention to the little details that elevate it to something really special.
