Old Malthouse has genuine country charm. The pretty cottage is in the welcoming village of Monksilver, just outside the Exmoor National Park and with easy access to some of Britain's most beautiful countryside. The three bedroom cottage sleeps up to five guests, so it is ideal for families, yet its smart layout makes it a favourite with couples and friends as well, particularly when they realise that it is only a two-minute stroll to the friendly Notley Arms pub.
Monksilver is a small village with little through traffic and a peaceful atmosphere. The long-distance Coleridge Way footpath passes through the village, and there are some breathtaking walks around the Brendon Hills. You can shop for provisions for your self-catering holiday in Somerset at the village shop in Stogumber, or three miles away in Williton where there are several pubs and two small supermarkets.
If you want more variety than Williton offers, then the seaside resort town of Minehead is ten miles away, with Bridgewater and Taunton being not much further. All have an excellent variety of places to shop, eat and drink, while Minehead also has two beautiful beaches, one sand and one pebble, a quay and a traditional Victorian promenade. The West Somerset Railway runs between Minehead and Bishop's Lydeard, taking passengers through 20 miles of stunning landscape and providing beautiful views.
You will never struggle to find a way to fill your days when you stay at Old Malthouse because the area is packed with fun activities, sightseeing and attractions. Not only is the wild beauty of Exmoor National Park on the doorstep, with its countless miles of footpaths, mountain bike trails and bridleways, but the Quantock Hills Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty and the coast are only a few miles away. Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre, Torre Cider Farm, Lundy Island, Exmoor Zoo and the Tropiquaria Zoo are just a few of the many nearby attractions, offering something for everyone, no matter what their age or interest.
