About Redway Lodge

Redway Lodge has space for up to 12 guests to sleep in four ensuite bedrooms, making it perfect for a self-catering holiday in Somerset with your family or friends. There is loads of space both indoors and outside, with views over the countryside towards the sea. The house is on the outskirts of Porlock in the Exmoor National Park, a five-minute walk to The Ship Inn and only a mile from the coast.

Porlock is a friendly village with a well-stocked village shop, welcoming pubs serving homecooked meals for lunch and dinner, and a great chip shop. Its lengthy history can be seen in the medieval church of St Dubricius as well as in the local museum which is in a 15th-Century manorial manor house. Porlock is one of the few places in the country that can boast a coffee roastery - the smell is incredible, and their bags of award-winning teas and coffees are the ideal souvenir of a wonderful holiday. More amenities, including several supermarkets and a wide range of places to eat, drink and shop are a ten-minute drive away in Minehead, where there are also both sand and shingle beaches as well as a variety of seaside entertainments.

Porlock marks the end of the long-distance Coleridge Way footpath, and there are some beautiful walks in the area. Porlock Weir and harbour is only a mile from Redway Lodge and easily reached via a gentle stroll or short bike ride if you choose not to drive. Those who enjoy a challenge can make their way to Dunkery Beacon where their efforts are rewarded with fantastic views, while Porlock Hill is closer (but still steep!) Walk along the coast to Porlock Marsh and Culbone, where you can marvel at England's smallest church, and Bossington is very pretty at any time of the year. Being in a national park means there are miles of footpaths and mountain bike routes to suit every ability.

Attractions in the Exmoor National Park include the vintage steam trains of the West Somerset Railway, the cliff railway that connects Lynton and Lynmouth, Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, and beautiful gardens at Greencombe and Marwood Hill. The owners of Redway Lodge have created a welcoming, family-friendly space where everyone can relax and enjoy spending time together.

Accommodation Comprises:

Redwood House was built in the early 20th-Century and has been sympathetically updated to include all of the modern conveniences today's visitors expect, including central heating and a dishwasher.

Downstairs:

  • Enter via a glazed front porch where there is plenty of space to leave wet walking boots and coats, or all your beach gear.
  • Spacious sitting room with ample seating and large windows that look out over the countryside towards the sea. There is a TV with a DVD player, and the cottage has WiFi.
  • Kids have their own space in the brightly decorated playroom, complete with toys, games, puzzles, and a television.
  • Fitted kitchen with a stylish island workbench and ample room to prepare and store food, as well as a large dining table that seats eight guests and a smaller table that seats four. One or two highchairs are available on request. Decorated in a modern country style, it is a lovely space where everyone will happily congregate.
  • Separate utility room with a washing machine, iron and ironing board.
  • Light, spacious four-person bedroom with a kingsized bed and single bunk-beds. A high window looks out onto the garden and lets in lots of natural light. The room has an ensuite with a shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Second downstairs bedroom with a double bed and ensuite shower room.

Upstairs:

  • An oak staircase leads to the first floor where the large landing has comfortable seating and is a quiet place to read. Glass doors open onto a decked balcony where there is more seating and fantastic views across the village to the sea.
  • Triple room with a kingsized bed and a small (4ft-wide) double bed. The ensuite has a bath, walk-in shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Triple room with a kingsized and a single bed, as well as an ensuite with a bath, WC and shower. A small annexe has a wooden cot (fitted sheet provided with guests to bring cot bedding).

Outside: The house has a large, sloping lawned garden at the front, and off-street parking for five cars on the driveway.

Additional information: All utilities, sheets and bath towels are provided, with guests to bring their own beach towels. Short breaks available (two-night minimum) throughout the year apart from the peak summer school holidays when only available if available at short notice. Dogs and smoking are not permitted.
