About The Old Chapel

The Old Chapel will quickly become one of your favourite places in Cornwall. As part of a converted stone chapel, the holiday cottage is brimming with character and charm, comfortably sleeping eight people in four bedrooms, three having an ensuite. It's in Halsetown, just outside of St Ives and within strolling distance of the welcoming Halsetown Inn village pub. Families and friends rate accommodation at The Old Chapel highly, appreciating being so close to St Ives and its beautiful beaches while having lots of space and privacy. As a bonus, guests have use of the excellent facilities at the popular Polmanter Touring Park that includes a heated outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a dog exercise field.

Halsetown was designed and built by James Halse in the early 1830s to provide housing for workers in his nearby tin mine. The Old Chapel is one of the original buildings and has been at the heart of the community for almost 200 years. Put on your favourite flip-flops and wander down to Porthminster Beach, where the gentle waves are perfect for paddling. Those with a little more ambition will enjoy surfing at Porthmeor, with lessons and equipment hire available from the St Ives Surf School. Slightly further away but still only around half an hour's walk, Carbis Bay is popular with families for its sheltered waters, cafe and watersports centre. If you're happy to drive or cycle, Marazion and Porthcurno are also beautiful choices.

St Ives is around two miles from the cottage, with a variety of wonderful places to eat, drink and shop. The light and the landscape have attracted generations of artists here, and St Ives boasts world-class galleries and museums that include Tate St Ives, Leach Pottery, and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. Other local attractions include the open-air Minack Theatre, St Michael's Mount, Land's End, Paradise Park, and Flambards. Walkers can join the long-distance St Michael's Way footpath from the village, with the South West Coast Path being a compelling alternative. The Hayle Estuary and Marazion Marshes are around 15 minutes away from bird watching, while the Seal Sanctuary is 40 minutes away in Gweek.

Whether you spent your entire time at the beach within walking distance of the cottage or exploring the beautiful Cornish coast and countryside, your stay at The Old Chapel is one you will love.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Old Chapel is a mid-terrace property with accommodation over three levels. The owners have furnished it with families of all ages in mind, including lots of thoughtful extras like coffee pods for the machine and helpful information about the local area that will help you make the most of your stay.

Ground Floor:

  • Open plan living/dining room and kitchen with lots of space to relax and socialise as one big gathering or in smaller groups. The seating area has a big corner leather sofa and an armchair, so plenty of seating for family film and game nights. The big flatscreen TV has a DVD player, and there's also a games console.
  • Solid oak dining table with extendable leaves to seat up to 10 people. There's a highchair in the cottage with a second available on request - please let the owners know when booking if this will be required.
  • Fantastic kitchen well-equipped for catering for hungry hoards with an electric double oven, gas hob, big fridge/freezer and useful appliances like a blender and a coffee pod machine. There is also a washer/dryer.

First Floor:

  • Bedroom One has a superking bed that can be separated into two single beds if preferred. There are bedside tables with lamps, a built-in wardrobe, a TV and a hairdryer. There is space in here for a travel cot which can be provided, though guests will need to bring bedding. The ensuite has a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom Two has two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds, a wardrobe, dressing table, and a TV.
  • Family bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Second Floor:

  • Bedroom Three is another spacious superking/twin room with views over the countryside to the sea. It has lots of proper storage, a TV, and an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom Four has a comfortable kingsized bed, ample storage, space for a travel cot, and an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The cottage has a lawn with a patio, seating and a charcoal barbecue. There is a secure shed for storing bikes, surfboards and other equipment. There is off-street parking for two cars, with two further parking spaces just outside.

Additional Information: Utilties, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided. Guests have use of facilities at the Polmanter Touring Park. Two high chairs and two travel cots are available - please specify when booking if these are required. Guests to bring beach towels and cot bedding. Smoking is not permitted.
