Sampson Barn is an attractive stone holiday cottage in the charming hamlet of Trescowe near Penzance. It's an idyllic spot with beautiful walks from the front door and Praa Sands beach less than three miles or a five-minute drive away. The one-bedroom cottage sleeps two people and is a favourite not only with couples but also with solo travellers who appreciate the very comfortable accommodation.
You'd never know it now, but this area was once infamous for its smugglers who were said to lure boats onto the rocks around Praa Sands then ransack the wreck for valuables. These days, the beach is better known for its fine golden sands than its chests of gold, with the sheltered beach stretching for a mile. The water close to the shore is typically calm and good for swimming, while the regular break further out makes it a favourite choice for surfers.
Local attractions are diverse and plentiful. You'll always find something fun to do no matter what time of the year you visit. Must-see places for your itinerary include the magnificent Minack Theatre. Though it feels as if it was built by the Romans, the open-air venue is less than a century old, having been built in 1931. You can see the theatre without booking tickets for a production, but their calendar of events is excellent, and we recommend you checking their calendar before you visit in case you want to book tickets. Another place to add to your Cornwall bucket list is Kynance Cove where the beach is a breathtaking vision of turquoise water, soft white sand, and a grassy headland with rock pools at the base. It's a magical place for a picnic, especially if you manage to spot some of the seals and dolphins that live in the area.
Penzance and St Ives are both perfect for a day of shopping and sightseeing. Both towns have a wide array of places to eat, drink and shop all year round, so you can always get a delicious meal at a pub or restaurant, and stock up on fresh ingredients to cook with back at the cottage. Helston, Hayle and Camborne are also only a short drive away from the cottage. The Crown Mines in nearby Botallock were brought back to life by the producers of the popular BBC series "Poldark", who also used Godolphin House as a filming location for the series. St Michael's Mount always impresses visitors, as does the view from Godolphin Hill.
Sampson Barn is one of two lovely self-catering properties at this location. Both are entirely private and self-contained and can, depending on availability, be booked together to accommodate extended family or friends. Please see the owners website for details.
