Hembal Manor is a gorgeous 16th-century manor house just outside St Austell and half a mile from The White Pyramid pub, with space for up to 16 guests across eight bedrooms. It's an elegant holiday home that comes to life when it's full of family and friends for fun gatherings, big birthday weekends, or just a long-overdue catch-up where everyone can relax together in a homely environment. Inside, the rooms are generous and uniquely decorated, with proper places to sit, eat and spread out. The games room and bar draw people in by evening to relax and allow guests to enjoy the property to its full potential. The Pool table, dart board, kareoke machine and game and DVD library will keep guests well entertained. The house has a long history of hospitality and after a recent renovation, the love that has been put into the decor really shines through.
The setting is quietly rural without feeling cut off. Mornings tend to start slowly with coffee in the kitchen, a wander through the garden, maybe spotting deer at the edge of the grounds if you're up early enough. St Austell is close by for the practical bits, but most people head for the coast for their days out. Carlyon Bay and Pentewan Sands are within a short drive, both good for an easy beach day without too much planning. Charlestown is worth an evening visit, especially when the tall ships are lit up and the harbour settles down after the day visitors have gone.
Head a few miles further to see the options open up quickly. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are both within easy reach, though they're best tackled early or later in the day to avoid the busiest times. Mevagissey and Fowey feel very different from each other, but are both worth the detour - one busier and working, the other quieter with a slightly slower pace. If you fancy a change of coastline, the north coast around Newquay is about half an hour away, with bigger surf and a completely different feel. Back at the house, evenings tend to fall into an easy rhythm. Food, drinks, and maybe a game or two before a restful sleep and a day full of promise.
