The Byres is on Selside Farm in a peaceful corner of the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks area, at the end of a farm track and surrounded by a picturesque patchwork of fields, drystone walls and vast open skies. The pretty semi-detached barn conversion has space for up to 4 people to sleep in three bedrooms and is a favourite with families and couples (especially walkers) who enjoy the space and serenity of the countryside.
This welcoming rural retreat is in Selside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and just three miles north of Horton-in-Ribblesdale and a few miles further to the bustling yet small market town of Settle. The Lake District National Park is also within an hour's drive opening up a host of additional attractions for a day trip out.
There are some beautiful walks throughout the Three Peaks area (Ingleborough, Whernside and Penyghent) as well as walks to enjoy straight from the front door. The sweeping country lanes are good for cyclists, making The Byres popular with outdoor enthusiasts at any time of the year.
Settle is a small but thriving market town with an excellent choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops for provisions, as well as a weekly market on a Tuesday. Closer to home, the attractive village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale (a popular point for starting the Three Peaks Walk) offers two pubs plus a cafe and tea room.
Nearby attractions include the Ingleton Water Falls Trail (a beautiful 4.3 mile circular walk), White Scar Caves (the country's longest show cave), Ingleborough Cave, Clapham Wood, Malham Tarn and Malham Cove (used as a filmset in the Harry Potter film Deathly Hallows), Gordale Scar and Stainforth Foss. A journey on the world famous Settle-Carlisle Railway is also a must and a wonderful way to enjoy the landscape, providing easy access to places like Carlisle, Leeds, York and Ribblesdale without having to drive.
Selside may appear calm and peaceful, and it is both of these things, but look a little closer and you have access to a wealth of adventure and excitement. Whether it is the thrill of scaling a mountain peak, the satisfaction that comes from pushing yourself on a challenging ride through new terrain, or the joy at finding a cafe where the homemade cake rivals anything Mary Berry could make, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Byres is not only a great place for a holiday but it is also easy to access, being 8 miles from the A65 and three quarters of an hour from the M6. It does not matter if you are coming north from Liverpool and Manchester, south from Carlisle or Scotland, or anywhere in between, you can have your feet up with a cup of tea in your hand and a beautiful view in front of you before you know it.
