Old Carthouse is a characterful barn conversion in the small village of Aysgarth. Set against the ever changing views over the Yorkshire Dales, this cosy holiday cottage is the perfect rural retreat for couples looking for a relaxing self-catering break. With a camp bed and cot also available in the double bedroom, families with small children are very welcome to stay here too. Enjoy the views and bird life whilst sipping a morning coffee on the private patio or make use of the additional seating and hot tub in the owner's secure garden which guests are welcome to use. Nothing beats watching the stars twinkle in the sky as you relax in bubbling hot water at the end of a day's adventures.
The cottage is well equipped for self catering, but if you prefer to eat out you don't need to stray far. Aysgarth itself has two cafes, a well stocked shop with plenty of local produce and the local farm runs a mobile self service unit selling their own milk and cheese. If cheese is your thing then make sure you also visit the market town of Hawes in Wensleydale. Watch Wensleydale cheese being made before choosing your favourite artisan cheeses to take back to the Old Carthouse for a cheese and wine night in.
There are many varied walks to suit all abilities direct from the front door. The breathtaking waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls is definitely worth a visit, or enjoy a gentle stroll through the surrounding woods. If you are looking to try something different you can visit the longest show cave in Britain at White Scar Cave or explore the secret underground chambers at The Forbidden Corner. If you want to explore further afield, Old Carthouse is ideally situated to drive to the Lake District, North York Moors and all the other Dales in the National Park, including Swaledale, Wharfedale and Nidderdale.
The owners, who retired here 17 years ago, love meeting their guests and sharing their knowledge of this beautiful part of the country.
