Kingsdale Cabin is one of the more tucked-away glamping stays at Meadow Falls, just outside Ingleton, with long views across towards the Forest of Bowland and enough space for a small family or couple to properly switch off for a few days. It sleeps six with a double bed and clever treehouse-style bunks that children immediately make a beeline for. The feel here is relaxed rather than polished. Mornings are easy, with coffee on the terrace while the site wakes up around you, and by evening, most people are outside around the fire pit, watching the light disappear behind the hills before the stars come out in all their brilliance. The Marton Arms is close enough to walk to for dinner or one of their famously over-the-top gin menus, though plenty of guests stay put once the barbecue is going.
Ingleton itself feels busy in summer but never overly commercial. You can walk into the village in around five minutes, which makes a difference after a muddy day out when nobody wants to drive again. There's a good mix of places to eat considering the size of the village. The lively Wheatsheaf is especially popular on weekends and has a huge beer garden that catches the evening sun, while The OPO microbar is a fantastic discovery for lovers of great beer and spirits. For breakfast, The Village Kitchen does solid bacon sandwiches and homemade cakes, or you can order a coffee and a bacon butty directly from the team at Meadow Falls. The site has quietly but consistently built a reputation for its facilities too. The shower block wins awards nearly every year and, surprisingly, deserves the fuss. Even seasoned campers mention it in reviews. Dogs are genuinely welcomed rather than merely tolerated, with a secure exercise run and warm dog wash waiting after long walks.
There's far more to this part of Yorkshire than one quick country break can cover. The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is the obvious starting point, though it’s steeper and wilder in places than people expect. White Scar Cave stays cool even on hot days and also works well if the weather turns. Serious walkers come for the Yorkshire Three Peaks, but there are easier routes too, including gentler rambles straight from the campsite through Westhouse and the surrounding lanes. Cyclists and mountain bikers are well catered for around the Dales, and local outdoor companies can sort everything from guided caving trips to canyoning and climbing. Further out is Kirkby Lonsdale for independent shops and riverside walks, the Ribblehead Viaduct for one of the best views in the area, and stretches of quiet road where you can drive for twenty minutes without seeing much more than sheep and dry stone walls. After a few days here, you will understand why so many visitors have been returning to Meadow Falls for years.
