Gamekeepers Cottage is in the Yorkshire village of Askrigg, within a short walk from three friendly pubs serving local ales and tasty meals, with the Kings Arms the closest at just 100 metres from the door. Askrigg has good self-catering amenities: a deli stocked with delicious Dales produce, a tea room, and a brewery. The traditional stone holiday cottage is perfect for individuals, couples or small families, including those with a dog, for its cosy, comfortable accommodation and proximity to beautiful walks and fantastic views.
Older visitors may recognise Askrigg as the filming location for the original All Creatures Great and Small TV series between 1978 and 1990. The scenery has changed little over the last century, giving the village a timeless charm that appeals to visitors of all ages. Keen walkers of all abilities will find plenty to delight on the footpaths going through and around Askrigg. The short but steep walk to the top of Mill Gill rewards with panoramic views, with other routes leading to Redmire and Bolton. The market town of Hawes is four miles away and a scenic walk or cycle if you like to take in the views. The famous creamery of Wensleydale is also four miles away, while seven miles from the cottage, Leyburn has a good choice of shops and amenities that include a busy Friday morning market.
Askrigg is close to the geographical centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. You are within around half an hour of Richmond, Sedbergh, and Kirkby Stephen and an hour from Appleby-in-Westmoreland, Kendal and the southern Lake District. Whether you're a walker, fell runner, mountain biker or horse rider, you'll find endless opportunities to enjoy being outdoors in this spectacular landscape. Go fishing on the River Ure, climbing and caving, or drive to a different village or town each day to find out why a pot of Yorkshire tea and a wedge of freshly baked cake should be prescribed for everyone's mental health!
Gamekeepers Cottage is available for holiday bookings all year round with short breaks (minimum of three nights) possible, depending on availability.
