The house is situated in the beautiful Yorkshire village of Rosedale Abbey. With a local café, small village shop and tea room a short stroll from the house. "Graze on the Green" is definitely worth a visit, providing freshly baked goods and a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Towards the outskirts of the village there are two pubs, both in walking distance. The "White Horse Farm Inn" offers stunning views over the village and beyond while also serving some very good pub grub!
For activities and recommendations we have a comprehensive guest book that highlights walks, local activities and restaurants worth a visit! There are many local walks right on the door step, including the Old Railway walk which starts at Chimney Bank and offers a stunning views of the village and the valley. While Chimney Bank is a very steep hill there is parking at the top if you prefer a flatter walk!
Cycling enthusiasts will recognise the infamous Chimney Bank from the Tour de Yorkshire as it boasts the steepest public road in the UK at 1:3. The views from the top are epic, whether you walk, cycle or drive to the top once you get your breath back you will take in the best views in Yorkshire!
The local area has many beautiful villages to visit - Lastingham, Hutton le Hole are as picturesque as Rosedale itself. The drive up Chimney Bank to Castleton via Hutton le Hole is stunning. Nearby Pickering, a thriving market town, home to a Norman Castle and the home of the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway. You can take a step back in time and board the steam train to Whitby via Goathland (the home of Heartbeat aka Aidensfield). Whitby is a beautiful harbour town, famous for Goth weekends, Whitby Abbey and Bram Stoker's Dracula as well as world famous fish and chips. From Whitby you can also visit the lovely fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, Runswick Bay and the stunning beach at Sandsend.
Dalby Forest is the home to 'Go Ape' plus lovely woodland walks and cycles trails (bike hire available). On the other side of Pickering is Flamingo Land - a zoo and theme park with rides. Historic York, Malton, Castle Howard, Helmsley and Castle Eden Camp (a Second World War prisoner of war camp) are all within an hours drive.
