The ground floor has generous living room (seating 12) a separate dining room (seating 12) and a kitchen with Aga and breakfast bar. There is a separate utility room and a downstairs toilet, The first floor has two twin rooms, the master ensuite Kingsize bedroom with cot and a family bathroom. On the second floor is a kingsize bedroom with ensuite , a twin bedroom, a kingsize bedroom and a family bathroom. The house is heated by an Air Source Heat pump ensuring it is always warm and cosy. Helena is surrounded by beautiful views from every window, to the front are views over the free ranging sheep on the common grazing that runs throughout the village. From the first and second floors the views are stunning to the Moors and hills beyond. There is off road parking for upto 4 cars to the front and side of the house and a pretty enclosed garden to the rear of the property perfect for your four legged friend to explore, and ideal for al fresco dining and BBQ.
Goathland (aka Aidensfield) sprung to fame in the Heartbeat series in the 90's and has since featured in the Harry Potter movies as Hogsmeade station, and more recently The Yorkshire Steam Railway on Channel 5 which runs through Goathland has kept the village on tv. Goathland is in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and has lots of walks on the doorstep, whether it be on the old railway which runs from Goathland to Grosmont or up over the Moors there is a walk suitable for all ages and durations. One of our favourite walks is along the old railway line to Beck Hole, where you'll find the quaint Birch Hall Inn. This is one of the smallest pubs in the UK, on one side it is a small sweet shop and on the other side there is a bar the size of a front room. There is a large beer garden and a beck below for dogs to cool off. Goathland has a few tea rooms, 3 pubs, a restaurant and an assortment of ice cream and gift shops and the station where you can get the steam train to Pickering or Whitby.
There is so much to see and do in the area, there is genuinely something for everyone, whether it be Go Ape in Dalby Forest, mountain biking in Dalby Forest or exploring the historic towns of Pickering, Helmsley, York and Whitby. There are castles a plenty (Pickering, Helmsley and Scarborough), Abbey ruins (Rievaulx and Whitby), historic houses (Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall). York has an abundance of history and sites to visit with the Cathedral in the heart of the walled city, one of the highlights! Whitby is the home of Bram Stoker's Dracula which legend has it was inspired by the Abbey that towers over the harbour town. Whitby is also the gateway to the North Yorkshire coast, with miles of coastal walks, with the nearby fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay all worth a visit. Or, if sandy beaches are your thing there's no better beach than at Sandsend. During the summer nearly every village has its own show which vary in size from small village shows to full scale traditional country shows. Castle Howard, Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Dalby Forest all house outdoor concerts and cinema events. Scarborough offers a lot to do whether it be a visit to Sea Life, the water park or North Bay there's always plenty to do. If adventure parks are your thing then Flamingo land (which combines a zoo with a theme park) will give adrenaline junkies their fix whilst on holiday. If exploring the North Yorkshire Moors stopping at a pub or tea room for refreshments there can be no better drive than the road from Hutton Le Hole to Castleton to really appreciate the beauty of the Moors and the stunning views from the road on a clear day - not to be attempted in the snow!
