About Ryedale Cottage

Ryedale Cottage is a charming period stone cottage ideal for couples or families who want the peace of a rural location without the isolation from sights and amenities. One of four lovely properties at Sproxton Hall Cottages (click through to the owner's website for more details), Ryedale can sleep four people in two bedrooms, with accommodation all on one level for ease of access. The cottage can be booked on its own, or together with one or more of the other properties to accommodate extended families or groups of friends.

Sproxton Hall Cottages sit within the Howardian Hills AONB on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. For guests who enjoy being outdoors, there is no better location because there is a wealth of activities nearby. A variety of footpaths, bridleways and dedicated mountain bike and road cycling routes create a beautiful lace through the countryside and across the moors, taking in fantastic sights and offering a path for every ability. Horseriding and golfing are two more popular ways to enjoy the scenery, which is stunning at any time of the year.

The friendly market town of Helmsley is only two miles from Ryedale Cottage. Unlike some High Streets, which are full of the same generic brands, the majority of businesses here are owned and run by locals who offer an incredible array of goods and services. Stock up on freshly baked bread and locally reared meat, browse boutiques and gift shops and settle down at a cafe for a proper pot of tea and a generous wedge of cake. Helmsley's attractions include a castle, an open-air lido, and a beautiful walled garden. Nearby are the National Centre for Birds of Prey, Rievaulx Abbey and Duncombe Park. Slightly further afield but still close enough for a fun day out, are Pickering, Castle Howard, and the ancient city of York, as well as the seaside resort towns of Whitby and Scarborough.

The owners of Ryedale Cottage have created a relaxing space that is ideal for a holiday at any time of year thanks to its welcoming accommodation and peaceful location. The scale and beauty of the landscape and the warmth of the Yorkshire hospitality will make this your new favourite place to visit.

Accommodation Comprises:

Ryedale Cottage is a single-storey 18th-Century farm building that has been sympathetically converted to accommodate up to four people in two bedrooms.

  • Sitting area with leather sofas facing the log burning stove. The TV has Freeview channels and a DVD player, and the cottage has WiFi.
  • Dining table with four chairs set in front of the large window overlooking the garden and countryside. The living/dining area has a vaulted ceiling with oak beams and rustic, thick stone walls that insulate the cottage and keep it at a comfortable temperature all year round, and there is also central heating.
  • Fitted kitchen with tiled floor and ample cupboard space. The owners provide a good complement of utensils, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery for four people.
  • Master bedroom with a lovely sleigh bed. Thick carpet and a wall-mounted radiator ensure that, even on the chilliest morning, guests feel cocooned in comfort.
  • Second bedroom with two single beds and a window overlooking the garden. The decor is suitable for guests of any age.
  • Spacious bathroom with a large walk-in shower, heated towel rail, WC and handbasin.

Outdoors: Shared garden with patio furniture and wonderful views towards the Howardian Hills. There is ample parking on-site, with the ability to stop near the cottage to load and unload your car.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets and towels are included. Please note: there is a washer/dryer in the owners laundry room that guests can use. A highchair and travel cot (no bedding) are available on request so please ask when booking. Pets are not allowed at Ryedale Cottage, but there are two pet-friendly properties at Sproxton Hall Cottages so please see the owner's website for more details. Smoking is not permitted.
