Living
Waddow Cottage has been built and furnished with relaxing in mind, providing four comfortable bedrooms that can sleep up to eight people and spacious open-plan living areas where families and friends can spend time together. The friendly village of Ribchester is only half a mile away, putting shops, cafes, an adventure playground and the popular Ribchester Arms pub a relaxed stroll from the door. If you're searching for an eco-friendly holiday cottage in a great location, then Waddow Cottage is ideal.
One of the biggest reasons people come to the Ribble Valley is for the breathtaking scenery which features fells, moors, mountains and rivers. Staying in Ribchester gives visitors easy access to fantastic footpaths leading to places such as Dunsop Fell, Saddle Fell and Beacon Fell, as well as along the River Ribble and River Brock. You could walk for miles every day and never repeat your footsteps, so vast is the network of footpaths in the area. Cyclists love the sweeping roads in this part of Lancashire, and mountain bikers also have an excellent variety of trails including those in the nearby Forest of Bowland. If golf is more your cup of tea, then you'll love the choice of courses within a short drive of the cottage, while anglers can set up their rods beside the Ribble River to catch trout, dace and grayling.
There is plenty to do in and around Ribchester that doesn't involve walking boots or sports equipment. Although people have lived here since the Bronze Age, Ribchester is better known for its links with the Romans, specifically the fort whose remains lie beneath the church and churchyard. The Roman Museum on Riverside is run by enthusiastic volunteers happy to help you learn about this part of Ribchester's history. About 20-minutes from Waddow Cottage, the pretty town of Whalley also boasts an impressive past with both ruins of a Cistercian abbey and a parish church dating back to 628CE. Also within easy reach, nearby Clitheroe has a castle, a busy market three times a week, an exceptional food hall and a choice of places to eat and drink.
For those happy to travel further afield, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks are within easy reach by car for a day trip, opening up an even larger choice of attractions and opportunities for outdoor adventure.
Waddow Cottage is one of a collection of beautiful holiday cottages managed by Ribble Valley Holiday Homes.
