With an abundance of open spaces, scenic walks and dog friendly things to do the Isle of Wight is one of the best dog friendly holiday destinations in the UK. The huge unspoilt stretch of coastline at Compton Bay, near Freshwater, is a big hit for both two and four legged members of the family. The wide open beach is perfect for letting dogs have a good run and it’s also a top spot for fossil and dinosaur footprint hunting. Brook Beach, Colwell Bay, Bembridge Beach and Totland Bay are also great beaches for dogs (please check seasonal restrictions) whilst Priory Bay is a beautiful hidden cove if you are looking for something a little more secluded.
Embrace the stunning views on a cliff top walk on Tennyson Down where you will be rewarded with views over The Needles. Or enjoy the peaceful ridge walk at St Catherine Down where you can enjoy panoramic views across the sea. For a change of scene head to Brighstone Forest at Brighstone, the largest woodland on the island offering a mix of woodland paths and open hillside tracks. The Brighstone Forest circular walk takes between an hour and a half and two hours and combines forest trails with hill climbs where you will find great views across the island. Other dog friendly activities include a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Model Village Godshill and the sprawling grounds at Osborne.
