India Cottage is perfect for your self-catering break. It's popular with couples, great for small families, including those with dogs, for a restful holiday by the sea. This Isle of Wight holiday home is in the desirable Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor on the south side of the island, an easy 5-10 minute walk from the beach, shops, cafes, award winning restaurants and friendly bars like the oldest pub on the island, The Crab & Lobster Tap. There is space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms with a layout suitable for couples or families with children over 10. Guests regularly rate it highly for everything from the location, to the sea views and the thoughtful welcome pack waiting for you on arrival.
Ventnor is a vibrant Victorian town on the south coast of the island with a sand and shingle beach overlooking the English Channel. Its charm is timeless with its period houses, colourful shops and independent businesses that include an array of places to eat and shop. It's equally convenient for the island's three ferry terminals in Yarmouth, East Cowes, and Fishbourne, with a regular bus service stopping just 100 metres from the cottage door.
Measuring 27 miles wide and 13 miles from top to bottom makes the Isle of Wight big enough to be attractive but small enough so that it feels familiar even if it's your first visit. With over 70 miles of coastline many guests enjoy cycling or walking at least part of it during their stay, appreciating a landscape that's now a UNESCO Biosphere. Following Queen Victoria, the Victorians flocked to the island, it quickly became a fashionable holiday destination. Today it remains popular with people of all ages who come for the scenery, attractions, sailing, sunny climate, and annual events like the Isle of Wight Festival, Cowes Week, Walking Festival, Ventnor Fringe and the Garlic Festival.
Attractions near the cottage include the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, Ventnor Botanic Garden, Blackgang Chine, and Shanklin Chine. Other places include The Needles, Osborne House, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, and Monkey Haven. There are museums, galleries, and workshops to paint a pot at or watch glass blowing. Hire a sailboat, have a go surfing or paddleboarding, or take a sightseeing boat tour to see the island from the water. There are so many ways to have fun on the Isle of Wight that we are pretty sure your first visit won't be your last!
