Northcourt House offers a rare opportunity to stay in a Jacobean manor house on the Isle of Wight. Forming the northern frontage of the manor, this wing offers grand reception rooms and bedrooms, with smaller bedrooms on the top floor. The property has been extensively refurbished and modernised over recent years, offering comfortable, homely accommodation for large, mixed groups. The property has 9 bedrooms with beds for up to 18 adults (+2 for children) and 8 bathrooms. The large function room is ideal for games with a baby grand piano and table tennis, business meetings, workshops, yoga retreats, or formal dining. For larger groups, the property can be rented with the adjoining west wing, Little Northcourt, with extra bedrooms within the estate to sleep up to 40 adults.
The property is located within extensive gardens within the picture-postcard village of Shorwell in the rural south-west Isle of Wight, and part of the Isle of Wight National Landscape (AONB). The property is a short walk from the village shop and local pub, the Crown Inn.
The Isle of Wight makes such a wonderful holiday destination because of its beautiful beaches and fantastic scenery and because everything is conveniently close. You're never more than a 20-minute drive from most of the attractions, so your days out can be full of fun without you having to spend hours in the car. Shorwell is in the south-west of the Island, in a designated National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). It's a 20-minute drive around the coast from the ferry terminal at Yarmouth, where you'll arrive if you depart from Lymington. If travelling from Southampton or Portsmouth to Ryde, it's a 25-minute drive.
Shorwell is around two miles from the south coast, sitting quietly near chalk downs, where maritime plants and birds thrive. Guests can walk or cycle there, using the island's extensive network of way-marked footpaths, bridleways and cycling routes. Local attractions include The Needles, Tapnell Farm, Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, Blackgang Chine, the Botanic Gardens at Ventnor, Dinosaur Isle, and The Garlic Farm. Watersports are understandably popular all year round. Cowes is famous for its sailing conditions. Surfing, kite surfing, coasteering and kayaking are popular, and there's a good variety of businesses providing equipment hire and tuition for visitors who want it.
The owners live on site and will be around to welcome you and be on hand if you have any questions or problems during your stay.
