Haviland Cottage - once you've stayed here, the mere mention of its name will bring a smile to your face. Tucked away in the quiet village of Bonchurch and within easy reach of Ventor's picturesque beach, the graceful Victorian holiday cottage sleeps seven people in four beautiful bedrooms and includes every luxury needed for the perfect holiday on the Isle of Wight (including a hot tub and Dog Bedroom for four legged family members!). Think Swallows and Amazons plus Famous Five with a generous twist of luxury - the Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to relax and have fun with your favourite people in any season. The beach and the centre of Ventnor, including the Crab and Lobster Tap pub, are within a relaxed 10-15 minute walk.
Bonchurch is in between the coast and Ventnor Downs. Of the entire island, there is no place more idyllic than here, next to a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Wherever you go, you're never far from beautiful views, whether fields and farmland, woodland, countryside, beaches or the coast. Take a walk to St Boniface Down, and you'll see evidence of a Roman settlement. Charles Dickens loved Bonchurch so much that he spent several months living here in 1849. Dickens took inspiration from the people he met to create characters in books like David Copperfield and Great Expectations. The owners of Haviland Cottage have created a map that allows you to follow in the footsteps of this literary great as you walk around Bonchurch and neighbouring Ventnor.
The Isle of Wight is large enough to be interesting but small enough that you can easily explore without spending hours in the car. In fact, Ventnor's central location on the south coast means it's no more than half an hour from anywhere. For example, the Needles, Cowes, Osborne House and Carisbrook Castle are less than 30 minutes from Haviland Cottage. Blackgang Chine, Shanklin Chine, Dinosaur Isle, and the Ventnor Botanic Gardens are even closer. Even getting here via the ferry from Southampton, Lymington or Portsmouth feels like an adventure!
Haviland Cottage is a classic English cottage where every day will be as relaxing as the next. The cottage was awarded 'commended' status for Dog Friendly Business of the Year for 2021/22 in the Beautiful South Tourism Awards and is a finalist for both Dog Friendly Business of the Year and Self Catering Accommodation of the Year for Tourism South East's "Beautiful South Awards 2022/23".
As well as the Beautiful South Awards, Haviland Cottage was a Finalist (one of three) in Dog Friendly Magazine's Self Catering Annual Awards (for less than 5 properties).
Bookings are available for holidays all year round.
