About Haviland Cottage

Haviland Cottage - once you've stayed here, the mere mention of its name will bring a smile to your face. Tucked away in the quiet village of Bonchurch and within easy reach of Ventor's picturesque beach, the graceful Victorian holiday cottage sleeps seven people in four beautiful bedrooms and includes every luxury needed for the perfect holiday on the Isle of Wight (including a hot tub and Dog Bedroom for four legged family members!). Think Swallows and Amazons plus Famous Five with a generous twist of luxury - the Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to relax and have fun with your favourite people in any season. The beach and the centre of Ventnor, including the Crab and Lobster Tap pub, are within a relaxed 10-15 minute walk.

Bonchurch is in between the coast and Ventnor Downs. Of the entire island, there is no place more idyllic than here, next to a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Wherever you go, you're never far from beautiful views, whether fields and farmland, woodland, countryside, beaches or the coast. Take a walk to St Boniface Down, and you'll see evidence of a Roman settlement. Charles Dickens loved Bonchurch so much that he spent several months living here in 1849. Dickens took inspiration from the people he met to create characters in books like David Copperfield and Great Expectations. The owners of Haviland Cottage have created a map that allows you to follow in the footsteps of this literary great as you walk around Bonchurch and neighbouring Ventnor.

The Isle of Wight is large enough to be interesting but small enough that you can easily explore without spending hours in the car. In fact, Ventnor's central location on the south coast means it's no more than half an hour from anywhere. For example, the Needles, Cowes, Osborne House and Carisbrook Castle are less than 30 minutes from Haviland Cottage. Blackgang Chine, Shanklin Chine, Dinosaur Isle, and the Ventnor Botanic Gardens are even closer. Even getting here via the ferry from Southampton, Lymington or Portsmouth feels like an adventure!

Haviland Cottage is a classic English cottage where every day will be as relaxing as the next. The cottage was also awarded 'commended' status for Dog Friendly Business of the Year for 2021/22 in the Beautiful South Tourism Awards. Bookings are available for holidays all year round.

Accommodation Comprises:

Haviland Cottage is a beautifully restored property where modern luxuries combine harmoniously with period features. It's somewhere you, your family, and friends will appreciate the owner's attention to detail, which means you don't have to do anything but turn up on the right day.

  • Elegant lounge with plush sofas, a Smart TV, and an electric stove with authentic flame effects. It's a lovely room for spending time together. The owners have created a special space where children can relax and have fun, with a choice of books, games, child-sized armchairs, and fluffy sheep stools.
  • Amazing kitchen diner with a modern oven and a traditional Rangemaster oven and hob, and all of the equipment and utensils a cook needs to make and serve meals for up to eight hungry people. A conservatory extension to the original cottage has a dining table with upholstered chairs and doors that open into the garden. The air conditioning ensures the room is at a comfortable temperature, even in summer.
  • Utility room with a washer and dryer.
  • Dog bedroom with underfloor heating and a plush rug, day bed, and plump dog beds. It's the most luxurious dog accommodation we've seen and so good that your pooches may turn their noses up at their normal beds! There's even a TV so they never miss an episode of Paw Patrol and an ensuite shower room where you can wash sandy fur and paws.
  • Quiet bedroom with access to the garden, a single bed, and ample storage.

  • All of the bedrooms upstairs are as beautifully finished and furnished as the rest of the house. The master bedroom is a lovely double with plenty of storage, and an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Double bedroom with a kingsize bed and garden views.
  • Double bedroom with an elegant kingsize bed and proper storage.
  • Family bathroom with a bath, hand basin and WC.

Outside: A huge rear garden provides lots of space to play, relax, enjoy barbecues, and soak in the six-person hot tub. The front garden is equally lovely, giving you the option to move with the sun or stay in the shade. There is off-street parking for two cars.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included, as is an initial supply of logs for the wood burner and pods for the coffee machine. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome. Guests to provide beach towels if they are required. Smoking is not permitted. Rated four-star gold by Visit England.
