Living
Easter House is one of those honey-coloured Cotswold stone houses that makes you stop and stare. This substantial double-fronted property sits right in Winchcombe. You can step out your front door onto picture-perfect streets lined with independent shops, cafes, and proper Cotswold pubs. Sleeping ten across five bedrooms - three kings with en-suites plus a twin and another twin on the ground floor - this recently refurbished house mixes period features with a contemporary feel that works brilliantly. The large open-plan living area gives everyone space to spread out, while the two-level back garden provides private outdoor space for alfresco dining and relaxing outside. Having the town on your doorstep means lunch, afternoon tea, or evening meals are all within walking distance, and you can explore the museum before heading back to your deceptively spacious and cosy base.
Winchcombe calls itself the "Walking Capital of the Cotswolds" and once you've tackled Cleeve Hill or wandered the Cotswold Way, you'll see why. The town itself has everything you need without feeling touristy. Browse butchers, bakers and galleries, and there are enough good eating spots to keep foodies happy for a week. The annual festivals bring a real community atmosphere, while the abbey ruins add historical depth. Sudeley Castle literally sits at the edge of town, with spectacular Tudor gardens and Katherine Parr's final resting place, making for fascinating visits. The Cotswold Way passes right through if you're after serious walking, while gentler strolls along the River Isbourne suit families with smaller legs.
The wider Cotswolds open up beautifully from here. Broadway, with its famous tower and upmarket boutiques, is just a short drive - that quintessential Cotswold village where honey stone meets designer shopping. Cheltenham brings Georgian elegance, excellent restaurants, and, of course, the racecourse for jump season thrills. Stow-on-the-Wold and its antique shops sit fourteen miles away, while the Slaughters (Upper and Lower) provide those postcard Cotswold scenes. Bourton-on-the-Water gets busy, but the model village and river walks are worth it, and you can miss the bulk of tourists by going first thing in the morning. Gloucester-Warwickshire Steam Railway and the Bugatti Trust cater to transport enthusiasts. Hidcote Manor Garden showcases Arts and Crafts horticulture, Chastleton House offers Jacobean architecture, and Chedworth Roman Villa takes you back two millennia. Prescott Speed Hill Climb lies four miles away for motorsport fans. This holiday cottage in Winchcombe puts you right in the heart of Cotswold country with access to everything from hill walks to stately homes.
