Higher Scarsick Cottage is a rural retreat in a quiet corner of Cornwall. Set on a working farm and surrounded by stunning countryside, there is easily enough space to sleep six people in three bedrooms and it is a favourite with families of all ages. Cornwall feels wonderfully rural and spread out but, the truth is that nothing is very far from anywhere. When you stay at High Scarsick Cottage, you can create your perfect family holiday in Cornwall.
The same family has owned higher Scarsick Farm for almost a century. It has a wonderfully timeless feel, particularly during lambing season in the spring when you wake in the morning to see the newest additions to the flock tentatively finding their legs while never letting mum out of their sight! The cottage is on the outskirts of Treneglos village at a midpoint between Launceston, Bude and Camelford. You could not ask for a better location to access all of the best sights and attractions in North Cornwall. The village has a lovely 12th Century church, and there are some beautiful walks nearby including a circular route that takes in the Saxon village of Warbstow.
The nearest town to Higher Scarsick Cottage is Launceston, around 10 miles away on the banks of the Tamar River. Launceston is a vibrant market town with an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop, many of which are independently owned rather than generic high-street names. The town was once the county capital, and the remains of the Saxon castle is a testament to its importance. In addition to walking, cycling and fishing, Launceston attractions include the Launceston Steam Railway, Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, the Launceston House Museum and the Tamar Otter Park.
Bodmin Moor is around ten miles from the cottage, offering miles of an unspoiled landscape for walking, mountain biking and climbing. Dartmoor is also within easy reach so, even if you are the sort of person who cannot sit still for longer than ten minutes, you will find an activity to keep you happily active and occupied.
Fringing all of this beautiful countryside and wild moorland is the glorious coastline of North Cornwall. This region is steeped in myth and legend from mystical King Arthur to the somewhat embellished but true tales of pirates. Learn to surf at Bude, or paddle in the Atlantic and build sandcastles at Widemouth Bay. Climb the steep flight of steps at Tintagel and discover the magic of Merlin’s Cave, or admire the staggering beauty of Boscastle as you eat ice cream and swing your legs over the harbour wall.
North Cornwall, and particularly the area around High Scarsick Cottage has so much to offer as a holiday destination, whatever time of year you visit. The cottage is only two hours from Bristol and an hour from Exeter, and just a short drive from the coast and friendly country towns.
