Glendorgal Sands is a stunning beachfront duplex with full-on 180-degree views across Porth Beach and out to Watergate Bay in the distance. From the lounge, kitchen, main bedroom, and sun deck, the sea views are outstanding – the sort that actually stops conversation when guests first walk in. The apartment sleeps five people in three bedrooms and has been furnished to an extremely high standard with solid oak floors, contemporary leather furniture, and all the tech you'd want, including a 55" smart TV with Sky and superfast WiFi. There's even a wireless jukebox system giving every room access to over 1500 songs, plus a DVD library stacked with surf classics if you want to get in the mood. The huge main bedroom has an en-suite shower room, a TV with a games console, and patio doors leading to the balcony, where you can look out to sea over morning coffee. Upstairs there's a second double with its own en-suite, and downstairs a single room with a third shower room. Outside, the sunny terrace catches the sun most of the day in summer, with a private hot tub for six, an outdoor shower (brilliant for sandy feet and wetsuits), BBQ, and comfortable loungers. The resort has 12 acres of grounds to explore, with steps leading straight down to Porth Beach or a short walk to the larger Lusty Glaze Beach.
Porth sits just north of Newquay proper, and this beachfront position puts you literally metres from the sand. Porth Beach itself is family-friendly with rock pools at low tide, backed by cliffs and the South West Coast Path running along above. Lusty Glaze is a privately-owned cove down 133 steps (they'll pick you up from the top if that's too much), with the award-winning Pickled Chef restaurant serving fresh local catches and aged meats with those ocean views. They do everything from beachside breakfasts to seaside suppers, with log burners for wild winter days. Newquay town centre is a short walk with its proper mix of surf shops, independent cafés, restaurants, and galleries. Gwenna Teahouse at Porth does afternoon tea, whilst Box & Barber and Fore Street Cafe both do good breakfast and brunch. Plentiful options for evening meals out include Rick Stein's on Fistral for seafood (or their sublime fish and chips to eat on the beach at sunset), The Fish House for barbecued lobster, Bush Pepper for something different with their Australian-inspired bistro, or Little Italy if you want pizza. Pubs include the 17th-century Traveller's Rest between Watergate and Mawgan Porth, the thatched Smugglers' Den Inn near Cubert, or the 13th-century Treguth Inn at Holywell if you want proper history with your pint.
From the apartment, you can walk the coast path to different beaches every day without getting in the car. Great Western, Tolcarne, Towan, Little Fistral and Fistral are all within walking distance south, whilst Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth can be reached heading north. Each has its own character – Fistral for serious surfing with international competitions, Watergate for kitesurfing and that massive expanse of sand, Towan for families. A brief car trip takes you to Crantock's sheltered beach backed by dunes, Perranporth's three miles of sand with beach cafés, and Bedruthan Steps with its dramatic rock stacks – all within 20 minutes. Padstow is half an hour away for Rick Stein's renowned seafood, the Camel Trail cycling route, and a busy working harbour. Newquay has the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo, and in summer, the harbour runs boat trips for dolphin and seal watching. The town's surf culture is the real thing – this was designated the UK's first World Surfing Reserve in 2022. Board hire and surf schools line the beaches, whilst wetsuit shops actually know what they're talking about. This holiday cottage in Newquay gives you that beachfront position with views that don't quit, plus walking access to multiple beaches and the surf town buzz when you want it.
