Cove House is in the popular Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey, within walking distance of the harbour, aquarium and friendly pubs like the Harbour Tavern. The late-Victorian property was built for the Harbour Master and recently refurbished to a high standard, to provide very comfortable accommodation for seven people in three bedrooms with a layout that makes it suitable for families or groups of friends on holiday together.
Despite its popularity as a holiday destination, Mevagissey has not lost its simple, welcoming charm. Life focuses on the sea with plenty of opportunities to fish, dive, paddle-board, poke around in rock pools or take a sightseeing boat trip around the coast. There is more than enough ways to keep the kids happy, especially with the aquarium, museum and amazing displays at World of Model Railways. The nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan began with the planting of sub-tropical species collected by curious Victorians and flourishes in the mild climate. Other days out can also include deep sea fishing and a boat trip on the foot-passenger ferry service to Fowey that runs between April and September from which basking sharks, seals and dolphins are often seen.
As well as being a fantastic place to see in itself, Mevagissey is also a wonderful base for a self-catering holiday in Cornwall. You can see Fowey and Polperro from almost every window of Cove House, both of which are lovely places to spend a few hours or a day busy doing nothing. You could go shopping in Truro or learn about Falmouth's maritime history, and there are miles of beautiful beaches to discover on both sides of the coast. You can surf at Newquay or swelter on the coldest day in winter in the world's largest indoor rainforest in The Eden Project.
The beauty of Mevagissey will quickly win you over, while the friendly atmosphere and fantastic local businesses will mean you will want to return year after year.
