About Cove House

Cove House is in the popular Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey, within walking distance of the harbour, aquarium and friendly pubs like the Harbour Tavern. The late-Victorian property was built for the Harbour Master and recently refurbished to a high standard, to provide very comfortable accommodation for seven people in three bedrooms with a layout that makes it suitable for families or groups of friends on holiday together.

Despite its popularity as a holiday destination, Mevagissey has not lost its simple, welcoming charm. Life focuses on the sea with plenty of opportunities to fish, dive, paddle-board, poke around in rock pools or take a sightseeing boat trip around the coast. There is more than enough ways to keep the kids happy, especially with the aquarium, museum and amazing displays at World of Model Railways. The nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan began with the planting of sub-tropical species collected by curious Victorians and flourishes in the mild climate. Other days out can also include deep sea fishing and a boat trip on the foot-passenger ferry service to Fowey that runs between April and September from which basking sharks, seals and dolphins are often seen.

As well as being a fantastic place to see in itself, Mevagissey is also a wonderful base for a self-catering holiday in Cornwall. You can see Fowey and Polperro from almost every window of Cove House, both of which are lovely places to spend a few hours or a day busy doing nothing. You could go shopping in Truro or learn about Falmouth's maritime history, and there are miles of beautiful beaches to discover on both sides of the coast. You can surf at Newquay or swelter on the coldest day in winter in the world's largest indoor rainforest in The Eden Project.

The beauty of Mevagissey will quickly win you over, while the friendly atmosphere and fantastic local businesses will mean you will want to return year after year.

Accommodation Comprises:

Cove House is a lovely late-Victorian house that has been in the same family until recently. Although it has been updated and modernised over its 130-year life, it retains many original features and benefits from beautiful sea views thanks to its hillside position.

Downstairs:

  • Steps lead from the street to the solid front door which sits between two large bay windows.
  • Running the length of the downstairs floor is the spacious kitchen/diner with lots of natural light and fantastic views. A window seat at the front is the perfect spot to relax with a drink as you watch the boats moving around the harbour.
  • Well-equipped to cook for large families and groups of friends, the fitted kitchen has lots of storage and granite countertops, as well as a dishwasher, toaster and the necessary utensils and crockery.
  • A comfortable sitting room at the front of the house also has a large window looking over the water towards Polperro and Fowey. If the view isn't entertainment enough, the television has a DVD player and Freeview channels.
  • Conveniently, there is a family bathroom with WC, heated towel rail, walk-in shower and hand basin.
  • Separate cloak room with WC and wash basin.

First floor:

  • Stairs lead from the hallway to the first floor where there are two double bedrooms with kingsized beds. As each room is at the front, they benefit from stunning views over the village and harbour. Original Victorian fireplaces make a lovely decorative touch.
  • At the back of the house, there is a shower room with WC and hand basin.

Second floor:

  • The entire attic space has been transformed into a spacious bedroom with three single beds. Skylights make it feel lovely and light, and there is a comfortable armchair in front of the original dormer window where you can sit and enjoy the view. It is an ideal space for children, but also appropriate for adult guests if required.

Outside: There is a seating area to the rear or the property as well as a small sitting area at the front.

Additional Information: Cove House has full central heating and WiFi. All utilities, sheets and bath towels are provided, with guests requested to bring beach towels if they are needed. There is no off-street parking but it is possible to use a lay-by opposite the cottage to unload and load the car, and there is a choice of parking between 250 and 500 metres from the front door. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
