1 Cherry Bank sleeps four guests and is situated on the ground floor of a barn conversion in the pretty Yorkshire Dales village of Bainbridge, in Wensleydale. The cottage overlooks the spacious village green with views to the hills beyond and is equipped and furnished to a high standard whilst retaining its original charm with features including exposed stonework, beams and a lovely wood burning stove for those cosy winter evenings.
Located in the centre of the National Park, 1 Cherry Bank is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. The bustling market town of Hawes is five miles away, with its famous Wensleydale Cheese factory and visitor centre, Dales Countryside Museum and recently restored Gayle Mill (as featured in the BBC "Restoration" programme). Nearby attractions include the megnificent Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Force waterfall..
There are numerous country walks straight from the cottage door, either in the lush river valley or on the more rugged surrounding hills. A firm favourite is the walk alongside the tumbling River Bain to Semer Water, Yorkshire's only natural lake, nestling in a bowl of sheltering hills. The village of Askrigg (where the original "All Crtures Great and Small" was filmed) is only one mile away along a public footpath. The Pennine Way may be accessed from Hawes.
Bainbridge itself is one of England's loveliest villages and boasts two tearooms, a hotel/restaurant called Yorebridge House which is situated alongside the River Ure and has fine dining and fabulous cream teas. There is also a small shop, a traditional butcher and a filling station. The village, which is overlooked by the site of a Roman fort surrounds the extensive village green with its historic stocks, The River Bain - the shortest river in England - cascades through the village and features an Archimedes wheel which produces electricity for local consumption. There are three pubs in Askrigg, as mentioned, 1 mile away - The Kings Arms (recommended to book if a meal is required), The Middle House and the Crown Inn.
Wensleydale is known as "the queen of the Dales" with a string of picturesque and interesting small villages, many fine country pubs and tearooms. Slightly further afield, places such as Richmond, Masham, Ripon and York are all within easy distance and are well worth a visit.
The Yorkshire Dales offers a spectacular landscape to explore and a multitude of attractions and places of interest to visit.
