Skills that have been passed down through generations, as well as the untouched environment and pure waters throughout the region, all contribute to the area's amazing whiskies. The isle of Islay is home to nine of these distilleries, including Bowmore, which is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. They all welcome visitors, offering guided tours and a dram (a small drink) of local whisky. Many of the places in Argyll and Bute have their own distillery, including the minute Isle of Jura, explaining its notoriety as the Whisky Coast.
