Aird House - Ardfern, Lochgilphead, Argyll and Bute, Scotland - Sleeps 6
Aird House is situated three miles from the little Scottish village of Ardfern in Argyll and is a traditional Scottish holiday home nestling amongst some of Scotland's most stunning scenery. It is part of Aird Farm and is situated at the end of Craignish Peninsula looking onto the Isles of Jura, Mull, Luing and Scarba with a view of the Straits of Corryvrechyan which is the well known whirlpool between Jura and Scarba.
The house is run by the Campbell family who have been at Aird Farm since 1919. Aird Farm is a traditional hill farm of 1500 acres with sheep and cattle being the main enterprises. A fabulous setting, there are many walks on the farm that guests can enjoy providing stunning views over Jura, Knapdale and Loch Craignish.
The village of Ardfern is well known as a popular yachting haven and has the Crafty Kitchen serving food with a craft shop within, post office and a local hotel (Galley of Lorne) which has a restaurant serving bar and evening meals. The village also has a shop and the nearby village of Craobh Haven has a pub, seafood restaurant and offers water sports. Ardfern Riding Centre offers the opportunity to try western riding, trekking and have lessons on home bred Appaloosas.
Mid Argyll is famed for its Neolithic burial grounds (one can be found at Aird Farm itself) and intruiging standing stones. Kilmartin Museum (in Kilmartin village), is an archaeology centre showing intriguing views of pre-historic Scottish life. Scotland's seafood capital, Oban is twenty-seven miles away with steamers, plenty of shops and ferries to the Scottish Islands.
