Old Dairy Cottage is in a stunning location overlooking Loch Melfort. You'll want to rise early to see as much incredible scenery as possible. It's a quiet self-catering holiday cottage where couples or individuals can escape from reality, even if only for a few days. Guests enjoy the quiet position just a short distance from the shoreline, yet within easy reach of a restaurant, local shops and other amenties. Oban is just 15 miles away.
A holiday on the West Coast of Scotland should be on everyone's bucket list. It's one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the world. That's not fluff or exaggeration - towns and villages around Loch Melfort regularly make it into the top 5 lists of places to visit and live in Scotland. Staying at Old Dairy Cottage, you're likely to see seals, otters and porpoises thriving in the clean loch water, while the views from the peak of Melfort Hills reach out over the Sounds of Jura, Firth and Lorn. Anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature will have their heart singing from the moment they open the curtains until the minute they close their eyes to the spectacularly bright starry night sky. The wealth of species of birds, flora and fauna need to be seen to be believed. It's a nature photographer's dream location and popular with walkers and mountain bikers.
Unlike some West Highland villages, Melfort is quiet but far from isolated. Excellent road links make it easy to explore via car, motorbike, and even bicycles (bike hire available). Getting to Oban is easy. From there, you can take a ferry to Mull, Iona, Islay, Lismore, Staffa, or one of the other picturesque islands off the coast. Anglers can obtain a fly-fishing permit from the post office in Kilmelford and the house also has a rod on the nearby freshwater loch. There are local stables where you can arrange horseriding and guided treks. Book a seat on a wildlife safari and let an experienced driver take you to hidden corners only known by locals, or visit National Trust gardens at Crarae and Arduaine. Oban, Balvicar and Lochgilphead have excellent golf courses, and there are historic castles and sites like Kilmartin Glen.
Old Dairy Cottage is perfect for a Highland escape at any time. The owners welcome bookings in all seasons, including short breaks where possible.
