Living
Cove Cottage is a peaceful, single-storey holiday cottage set high on the hills overlooking Loch Caolisport, on the Scottish west coast. It sleeps four guests in two bedrooms and suits couples, families, and dog owners who want space, quiet, and scenery without feeling completely cut off. The cottage sits apart from the rest of the estate, offering a real sense of privacy while still easy to reach by car via a narrow private track. From the house and garden, views stretch across the loch towards rolling hills and distant mountains, and the only regular sounds are wind, birds, and the occasional movement of wildlife. An open fire brings warmth and comfort on cooler evenings, while the all-on-one-level layout keeps everything simple and easy to live in.
The cottage is part of the privately owned Ellary Estate, and that setting shapes the experience of staying here. Step outside and you have direct access to open hillside, with informal paths leading away from the garden and a large grassy field just below the house that's especially popular with dogs. Walkers can head out straight from the door without needing to drive anywhere first, and it's not unusual to spot deer, red squirrels, or foxes on the hillsides. Closer to the water, the loch attracts birdlife and, if you're lucky, otters or seals. The atmosphere indoors is practical and comfortable rather than showy, with a conservatory at the front of the cottage offering a sheltered place to sit with views across the water that is equally good for a slow breakfast or a quiet drink at the end of the day.
Despite its secluded feel, Cove Cottage makes a good base for exploring this part of Argyll. Fishing is a popular local activity (local permits are available nearby during the season), while the surrounding area is threaded with quiet roads and tracks that suit cyclists and mountain bikers. The coastline is broken up into small bays, inlets, and sandy beaches, including Kilmory Beach, which is well worth the drive on a clear day. For supplies or a meal out, Castle Sween Holiday Park is around five miles away, with a small shop, restaurant, and takeaway service, while Lochgilphead and Tarbert offer supermarkets, cafes, and independent shops a little further afield. Day trips might include the Crinan Canal, boat trips to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool, or a longer drive north to Oban. At the end of it all, returning to the quiet of the hills above Loch Caolisport is part of what makes a stay here so memorable. This holiday cottage in Argyll appeals to guests who value space, scenery, and a slower pace, balanced with the option to head out and explore when the mood takes them.
