About The Stable

The Stable is a cosy haven for couples in the heart of the glorious Yorkshire countryside. This cosy conversion, which is attached to the owner’s farmhouse, has been skilfully transformed into a beautiful cottage with exposed beams and generous windows that look out onto some of the most beautiful views in North Yorkshire. Set in a peaceful location in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is ideal for exploring the region.

High Ellington is a small, farming hamlet with a wonderful rural feel. The loudest noises you are likely to hear are the bleating of sheep in nearby fields or the efforts of a particularly enthusiastic woodpecker in the garden. Just over two miles away, the ancient market town of Masham has been a focal point for the local community for centuries. It has several excellent pubs and is home to the famous Theakston Brewery and the Black Sheep Brewery. Masham has a fine collection of galleries, food shops and tearooms.

The winding lanes and sweeping hills make the Yorkshire Dales ideal for cyclists and walkers who don’t mind putting in the effort to be rewarded with a stunning view. Masham is on the eastern border of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and also within easy reach of the North York Moors National Park, providing endless opportunities for enjoying the unspoilt countryside first hand. There are many enjoyable walks and places of interest in the area including Jervaulx Abbey, Newby Hall, Thorpe Perrow Gardens and Arboretum and many more. How Stean Gorge is around eleven miles from The Stable, with more lovely walks, caves and the opportunity to abseil and canoe.

The Stable is perfectly located for couples who enjoy not only walking but shopping and eating too. Ripon, York, Darlington, Harrogate, Bedale, Thirsk and Richmond are all well within an hour’s drive, providing guests with fantastic sightseeing, shopping, country houses, museums and churches. The friendly owners have taken great care to create a welcoming space where you can switch off and relax.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Stable is a period property attached to the owner's farmhouse but remains private. It retains original features including exposed beams and stone walls.

  • The kitchen, dining and living area are all open plan, with one space flowing effortlessly into the next. Full height windows and glass French doors make the most of the stunning views, and because they are double glazed, they help keep the space cosy all year round.
  • The living area has a wonderful log burning stove with the first bin of logs provided free from the owner. A comfortable couch and television with DVD player make it a good place to relax after a busy day. The owners have also provided a selection of books and games so you can unplug completely if you choose.
  • The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday in Yorkshire. There is a dining table with two chairs near French doors that open onto a terrace and garden.
  • The bedroom has two full-sized single beds. There is proper storage so you can unpack and settle in.
  • There is an en-suite shower with separate WC and hand basin.

Outside: A patio area leads from the house to the garden. It has a table and chairs and is a lovely place for an evening glass of wine before dinner, or breakfast on a summer morning. The private garden attracts a wealth of birds and other wildlife, and there is a bird feeder and a bird bath. Guests have use of off-street parking.

Additional Information: The Stable has gas central heating, and all utilities and linen are included. A large bin of logs is provided, with more being available to buy from the owner if required. Short breaks are possible depending on availability (two night minimum normally applies apart from during peak season when it is normally seven nights unless at short notice). Until the end of September 2024, bookings of 4 nights or more will be accepted. There are several steps leading from the living area to the toilet and bedroom and therefore the accommodation is not wheelchair accessible. No smoking. No pets. Rates quoted include Christmas and New Year.
