The Shippon is a welcoming holiday cottage in a gorgeous location. Anyone who yearns for space, peace and spectacular views should certainly consider this holiday rental in Newton-le-Willows, near the Yorkshire Dales and close to the North York Moors national parks. The one-bedroom period property provides 4-Star accommodation for couples or individuals who want to step back from the frantic pace of modern life and escape from the world, even if only for a few days. The owners have carefully renovated a former stone barn into a welcoming cottage for 21st Century guests, yet whose original features would still be recognisable to its original owners.
Yorkshire's landscape is spectacular. Guests staying at the Shippon can step outside and into two acres of grounds, including an orchard and a summerhouse with incredible views of the Cleveland Hills. The owners have erected 14 nest boxes around the grounds, and squirrels, hedgehogs and pipistrelle bats are all spotted regularly.
The quiet village of Newton-le-Willows is only four miles from Bedale, where there is an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop, including a weekly market that's been held every Tuesday for 750 years. It's a handy stop-off point between the cottage and Wensleydale, where attractions include the Creamery at Hawes, where the world-famous cheeses and other delicious local goodies are available in the Hawes Creamery. Hawes Ropemakers attracts thousands of visitors a year to learn more about the skill that has been a tradition here for centuries. Lovers of real ale and beer will enjoy a tour of the Black Sheep or Theakstons breweries in Masham. Keep an eye on the calendar of sales and lots at Tennants. The auction house is the largest in Europe, with more than 80 sales every year. Bolton Castle, Middleham Castle, and Jervaulx Abbey are just a few of the many significant historical buildings you can see. Richmond, Castle Howard, York and Durham are all under an hour's drive from The Shippon.
In addition to the moors and the dales, visitors to The Shippon enjoy the trails around Hardraw Force and Aysgarth Falls. The gardens at Constable Burton Hall Gardens, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum and Newby Hall are all stunning in every season. Further afield but still close enough for a day of walking or cycling are Swaledale and the River Swale. The Tour of Yorkshire route passes nearby the cottage, which is also on the Sustrans network.
The Yorkshire Dales is a wonderful holiday destination in all seasons, with The Shippon making a perfect self-catering retreat from where you can enjoy it all.

The Shippon is a former cow byre with original oak beams and Yorkshire stone walls. Its renovation has turned it into a spacious and comfortable holiday cottage with accommodation all on ground floor level (there is just a small step at the entrance door).
Outside: Guests are welcome to enjoy the owner's two acres of organic gardens that include an orchard, organic kitchen garden, summer house, and quiet spots with seating where you can admire the beautiful views. There is secure storage for bikes and off-street parking.
Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Pets and smoking/vaping are not permitted.
