The Old Granary is a charming double-fronted stone cottage in a beautiful location just a few minutes stroll from The Royal Oak pub in the North Yorkshire village of Gillamoor. With lots of features, as the name suggests, The Old Granary has been skilfully converted from a former granary to a welcoming holiday home and now sleeps four guests in two bedrooms. It boasts a stone fireplace and exposed beams believed to have been made from ship masts in the 17th Century and provides a welcoming retreat at any time of the year. The ability to have the second bedroom set up either as a double or a twin means that The Old Granary is ideal for couples, families or friends.
Gillamoor is a fantastic place to stay while exploring the North York Moors Naotional Park and has a nice pub serving good food for a meal out. Footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes lead through and around the friendly village, so it is fast and easy to immerse yourself in the landscape, which varies from pretty to dramatic in the space of a single walk.
The surrounding area offers a plethora of attractions. Farndale is famous for its swathes of springtime daffodils so if you are visiting in March or April then be sure to add this route to your list. Nearby Kirkbymoorside has a small weekly market, an independent deli, an excellent butcher selling locally reared meat, bakeries, cafes, pubs, takeaways and a variety of other shops and boutiques, as well a golf club for those who enjoy a round.
Slightly further from the cottage (around 9 miles), vibrant Pickering offers more places to eat, drink and shop as well as attractions like Pickering Castle, the North Yorkshire Moors Heritage Railway and the Beck Isle Museum. Other attractions for a day trip out include: the historic City of York; the coastal resorts of Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay and Saltburn; the stately home of Castle Howard for history buffs; Flamingoland Theme Park for younger party members; the Ryedale Folk Museum in the pretty nearby village of Hutton le Hole or Eden Camp War Museum near Malton for some local heritage; the North York Moors Railway for a relaxing way to soak up the scenery; Dalby Forest with its tracks and trails and Go Ape tree top adventures; and the picturesque valley's of Rosedale and Bransdale.
The Old Granary is ideal whether you want to sit and relax in the garden, in front of the log burner with a good book, spend your days walking or riding miles through the surrounding moors and countryside, or discovering towns and villages that perfectly embody the warmth of Yorkshire's hospitality.
