Living
Perched up on a hillside in the middle of the North York Moors, Monket Cottage presents visitors with a combination of 5-Star luxury, tranquillity and spectacular views. The two-bedroom, single-storey cottage has been recently refurbished to a very high standard and serves as an ideal base for guests to go out and enjoy the huge range of activities that the area has to offer or 'stay put' and enjoy the views in comfort.
Known also as 'Daffodil Valley' for the show of wild daffodils that attracts visitors from far and wide every spring, Farndale offers a place to 'get away from it all', with a tapestry of farmland bounded by dry stone walls and capped by heather moorland, frequented by a wide range of wildlife. Depending on the time of year, visitors will enjoy the relaxing chorus presented by the local farm life and wildlife, including the calls of Curlew, Lapwing and Red Grouse. Monket Cottage sits high, above the hamlet of Church Houses, 1/4-mile down the road. The Feversham Arms Inn in Church Houses offers a wide-ranging food menu which, depending on the weather, can be enjoyed inside next to the cosy open fires or outside in the garden, with more of those special views.
Kirkbymoorside, 8 miles to the south, is one of Ryedale's five picturesque market towns and offers a range of amenities and local stores, including bakers, a butcher, cafes, a small supermarket, and several takeaways. On market day (Wednesday) a wide range of stalls line the market place with the likes of fresh fruit and veg, fish and bread to enjoy. Pickering (7 miles to the east of 'Kirkby') and Helmsley (5 miles to the west) are bigger towns and host markets on Mondays and Fridays respectively.
Heading north out of Farndale, via the famous Blakey Bank (weather permitting!), day trips can be made to a host of beautiful beaches including Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Runswick Bay and Sandsend, all reachable within a 35-minute drive. The famous fishing town of Whitby with its stone streets, numerous fish-and-chip restaurants and cliff-top abbey, is a 40-minute drive from Farndale.

The accommodation...
With vaulted ceilings, stone floors and underfloor heating throughout, Monket Cottage has been refurbished to a modern standard whilst maintaining the cosy feel of a rural cottage. In each bedroom guests will enjoy luxurious white 400-thread count cotton bedding, a dressing table and an LED 'smart' TV. Heating and plentiful hot water is provided by a biomass (wood pellet) boiler.
Towels are provided.
The entrance hall provides a space for coats and boots.
Bedroom 1 boasts a super-king bed from which stunning views of the dale can be enjoyed on a lazy morning with a cup of Yorkshire tea. A separate storage area with plenty of hanging space leaves the bedroom feeling airy and spacious. The bedroom has an en-suite with digital shower, WC and wash basin.
Bedroom 2 can be configured with a super-king bed or as a 'twin' with two single beds. A 43" wall-mounted TV is provided in case even the warm heated floor cannot draw you out of bed in the morning.
The family bathroom includes a double-ended bath with digital bath filler and over-bath shower, WC and wash basin. Both ends of the bath offer views of the dale for a relaxing soak.
The semi-open-plan living and kitchen space is spacious and commands great views over Farndale. The kitchen area is modern and well-equipped and includes an electric hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge, wine chiller, freezer, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, kettle and toaster. The dining table is positioned to enjoy those dale views whilst eating your breakfast, dinner or tea (as it is here in Yorkshire). The living space has a corner sofa, log burner and a large TV.
A raised decking area gives the opportunity to enjoy alfresco dining with amazing views of the dale or after-dark star gazing, aided by the dark skies of the North York Moors National Park.
...and the service.
The owners, Heather and David, live in Monket House located across the yard. They are committed to giving every guest a welcome stay and are on hand to answer questions and provide assistance at any time. To alleviate any long and arduous journey, the essentials of milk, tea and coffee will be waiting upon arrival.
