About Fernleigh At The Bay

Fernleigh is an elegant Victorian villa in Robin Hood’s Bay, thoughtfully designed for families, friends, and special gatherings. Sleeping up to twelve guests (a maximum of ten adults plus two children), the house offers six beautifully appointed bedrooms: three en-suite doubles, one en-suite twin, and a generous family suite with a double bedroom, children’s bunk room, and private shower room. One of the area’s few large holiday homes, Fernleigh provides exceptional space both indoors and out, along with off-street parking for one car, space for a small second car, and additional on-street parking when available.

Set on Mount Pleasant South in the Upper Bay, three south-facing bedrooms enjoy sweeping sea and bay views. At garden level, double doors open onto a private, enclosed outdoor space with seating, dining table, and BBQ, perfect for relaxed summer evenings. Inside, the house blends period elegance with modern comfort, featuring a grand living room with open fireplace and Smart TV (plus Nintendo Switch 2), a spacious dining room with log burner, a fully equipped kitchen with modern Miele appliances centred around a contemporary range cooker, and a snug with iMac workstation. Throughout the house, furnishings are sourced from local Yorkshire craftspeople and finished in carefully chosen Farrow & Ball colours.

Each bedroom is dressed with White Company duvets and pillows, complemented by Yorkshire-made soft furnishings from the Yorkshire Blanket Company. High-speed Wi-Fi, full gas central heating, an EV charger, and thoughtful family-friendly touches including baby equipment and a dog-friendly layout ensure a comfortable stay for every guest.

On arrival, guests are welcomed with a locally inspired hamper including coffee and cake, setting the tone for a warm Yorkshire stay.

The owners’ family has holidayed in Robin Hood’s Bay for over a century, spanning five generations. Fernleigh has been lovingly restored to retain its Victorian character while introducing the comfort and practicality of a modern family home. Every detail reflects a commitment to quality, local craftsmanship, and creating a place where guests can truly relax and reconnect.

This grand three-storey villa is designed to bring people together. Alongside its six bedrooms, including a family suite with a playful pirate-themed bunk room, Fernleigh offers generous communal spaces, a private enclosed garden for alfresco dining, and convenient parking, making it ideal for multi-generational stays and group celebrations.

Ground Floor Living

Step through the elegant front porch into a high-ceilinged hallway painted in rich period tones, complete with coat storage, shoe space, and thoughtful practical touches. Original artwork and historic images of Robin Hood’s Bay reflect the home’s heritage and local roots.

The living room is a welcoming space for relaxing together, with comfortable sofas, bay window seating, a 55-inch Smart TV with Nintendo Switch 2, and a feature open fireplace. The dining room is made for shared meals and celebrations, centred around a large bespoke table and warmed by a log burner.

A snug off the hallway doubles as a quiet workspace, complete with iMac, while double doors lead out to the enclosed, dog-friendly garden with ample seating and a modern BBQ. The kitchen is spacious and sociable, designed around a modern range cooker with breakfast bar seating, Miele appliances, and a high-end coffee machine, fully equipped for everything from quick breakfasts to celebratory dinner

Bedrooms and Suites

On the first floor, two front-facing bedrooms (one double and one twin) enjoy bay views, while a further double bedroom sits quietly to the rear with its own private access. All are en-suite for comfort and convenience. The second floor hosts the family suite, comprising a king-size double connected to a pirate-themed children’s bunk room, along with a further en-suite double bedroom to the rear.

For families travelling with younger children, thoughtful extras are provided, including high chairs, childrens cutlery and plates etc, children’s books, a video baby monitor, changing mat, and large travel cot.

Comfort Throughout

Fernleigh has been fully renovated with a full-pressure hot water system, powerful showers, full gas central heating, high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, and a private EV charger available free of charge. Bed linen and towels are included, and a downstairs WC adds further convenience.

A Warm Welcome

We want guests to feel at home from the moment they arrive. A welcome hamper awaits on arrival, along with everything needed for a comfortable stay, from baby equipment to an enclosed garden for dogs. Access is via a secure key safe, allowing for easy, flexible arrival and a relaxed start to your time in Robin Hood’s Bay and we have a local team on standby should you have any issues or challenges during your stay.
