Coble Cottage is a quintessential Staithes holiday cottage. Built in the 1700s, the original occupants of the Grade II listed property may have been friendly with James Cook, who lived in the house across the road as a child and went on to become one of England's greatest explorers. Guests have fantastic views of Staithes harbour and the sea and are within walking distance of shops, cafes and friendly pubs like the Royal George. Considering its age and purpose as a fisherman's home, Coble Cottage is remarkably spacious. There is space for up to six people to sleep in four lovely bedrooms, and accommodation is over several floors with a layout that is ideal for families or friends.
Staithes is a fantastic holiday destination. The historic harbour town has loads of charm, spectacular views and excellent amenities, yet never feels crowded or overrun with tourists. Coble Cottage is in the oldest part of the town, at the end of one of the cobbled streets that wind their way down to the harbour where local fishing boats return daily with cod, lobster and crab. Kids love exploring the rock pools and crabbing from the harbour walls, while a walk along the cliffs is a favourite activity for all ages in every season. Staithes has shops, galleries and an excellent museum about Captian Cook, as well as welcoming cafes where you can refuel after a busy morning or partake in a leisurely brunch over the papers.
As part of the North York Moors National Park, Staithes is perfectly located to explore far and wide. Walk, drive or cycle along the coast to beaches like Whitby, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay, keeping an eye out for fossils around the rock pools and the cliffs. The area around Staithes is littered with historic sites that include Roman ruins, former mines that fed the Industrial Revolution, ancient tumulus and beautiful churches. The Hinderwell Parish Hidden Heritage Trail is an easy way to explore, and other waymarked footpaths lead through Mulgrave Woods, Ugthorpe and Sandsend.
Coble Cottage offers a warm welcome to visitors in every season, beautiful walks and bike rides, and easy access to some of the best sights and attractions on the Yorkshire coast and in the North York Moors National Park.
