Mallard Cottage is part of a collection of seven outstanding self-catering cottages in the New Forest. Tucked away on Burgate Manor Farm and close to the River Avon, the cottage sleeps up to eight guests and is perfect for large families and friends. It is possible to hire several, or even all, of the cottages together, to accommodate groups of up to 54 people, making Burgate Manor Farm ideal for everything from a quiet family getaway to a special celebration with family and friends.
Burgate Manor Farm is a mile outside Fordingbridge on the edge of the northern side of the New Forest National Park. You will find an excellent complement of shops and amenities in the pretty market town, complete with a medieval arched bridge that spans the river. St Mary’s Church was recorded in the Domesday Book, although much of the current building is relatively modern, having been built within the last 200 years. Be sure to search for the memorial to the last man killed in a duel in Britain, James Alexander Seaton. He is buried in the family vault, having died in 1845 after participating in a pistol fight on Gosport Beach.
The New Forest National Park is heaven for walking, cycling and equestrian sports. There is an excellent network of tracks and bridleways traversing the ancient landscape, with a path suitable for everyone regardless of their ability. The long-distance Avon Valley Path goes through Fordingbridge on its way from Salisbury to Christchurch, or follow the shorter, circular route that goes through Godshill. Bike hire is available from Sandy Balls, while nearby Arniss Stables can arrange pony trekking tailored to suit you, even if you are an equestrian novice.
The cottage is surrounded by 230 acres of private grassland, meadows and farmland. Burgate Manor Farm enjoys direct access to the River Avon, and the owners are happy to help guests arrange the relevant fishing tickets so you can fish for roach, pike, barbel and chub, among other species. The farm also has a games barn with pool tables, table football and table tennis, so there is always something fun to do.
There are numerous popular New Forest attractions within easy reach of Mallard Cottage and Burgate Manor Farm. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is a fantastic day out for the entire family, as is Go Ape at the Moors Valley Country Park. Younger children will love Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park, and everyone will enjoy the activities at the New Forest Water Park. Salisbury, Portsmouth and Stonehenge are all within easy reach by car. Burgate Manor Farm is close to everything yet its position means that guests benefit from the peace.

Mallard Cottage is a charming holiday home with accommodation all on one level.
Outside: Glass French doors open from the living room onto a shaded, gravel patio area where there is a charcoal barbecue and a table that can accommodate ten or the owners can add outdoor tables and chairs for up to twenty hungry guests. Guests have shared use of garden which overlooks the River Avon, and access to a games barn for undercover activities. The farm has cows, pigs and wild deer, and guests are welcome to explore the footpaths that run through the fields and beside the river. There is ample off-street parking.
Additional information: Mallard Cottage has WiFi and central heating throughout. Electricity and linen are included and guests are requested to bring bath towels, and beach towels if they are required. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement - please contact the owner to discuss numbers and breeds. Mallard Cottage is a non-smoking property.
