Hillhead Cottage is a lovely holiday cottage in the Fife golfing village of Lundin Links. Dating back to the 1770s, the 250-year old former farmhouse has been skilfully renovated by an award-winning architect who sympathetically preserved original features while creating a fresh, contemporary space for up to six people to sleep in three bedrooms and a layout that works for friends and families. The location is perfect for a self-catering holiday in Fife, being just 200 metres from the beach and within walking distance of two world-renowned golf courses, shops, cafes, restaurants, and the waterfront Railway Inn pub.
Lundin Links is a wonderful base from which to explore the Fife and the surrounding area. It is attached to the neighbouring village of Lower Largo the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk who inspired Daniel Defoe to write the novel ‘Robinson Crusoe’. Barely an hour north of Edinburgh, the pretty coastal town is in the picturesque area known as the East Neuk of the ancient Kingdom of Fife. Visitors come from around the country to pit their skills against James Braid's 18-hole course at Lundin Golf Club or play at the world's first ladies golf club, Lundin Ladies. It has lovely walks and bike rides around the coast and through Fife's scenic countryside, though it is equally lovely to tour in a car.
There is a long list of wonderful reasons Fife is such a fantastic holiday destination. Golfers plan their stay around 44 courses that include the hallowed links of St Andrews as well as Kingsbarns, Elie, and Ladybank. Hikers come for the Fife Coastal Path, hilly routes with spectacular views, and quiet woodland walks. The volume and diversity of birds and wildlife attract photographers and nature lovers from around the country. Fife has many childrens activities, watersports, palaces and historic sites. The local area is popular with artists and there are many festivals throughout the year. Fresh seafood is caught in local waters and there is a growing number of artisan producers who sell their wares through farmers markets, farm shops and local delis.
Your holiday can include a sightseeing boat trip on the Firth of Forth and a walk to the North Queensferry Harbour Light Tower with its spectacular views of the UNESCO World Heritage Forth Bridge. Fans of "Outlander" can Tour Dysart Harbour, Falkland and other filming locations. Admire the magnificence of Ravenscraig Castle and learn about one of the nation's greatest entrepreneur's, Andrew Carnegie, at his childhood home. With Edinburgh around an hour's drive from the cottage, you can also plan a day or two exploring the delights of the capital city.
