About The Old Cowshed

The Old Cowshed may have started life as a home for four dozen cows but has shed any semblance of a barn and is now a light, spacious self-catering property with hot tub and space for up to 16 people to sleep in seven individually decorated ensuite bedrooms. If you need a place where you, your family and your friends can spread out and relax, this is it! It isn't only the house that is special and ideal for a fun holiday, but also the location. The Old Cowshed is on a family-run farm near Kidwelly, about 500 metres from the shore of Carmarthen Bay and within easy reach of the Pembrokeshire and the Gower.

Carmarthenshire is a holiday destination for every season. The beaches vary from the vast expanse of Pendine Sands, which stretches for seven golden miles, to hidden rocky coves accessible only via a coastal footpath. Swimming, surfing, kiteboarding and beach fishing are all favourite ways to enjoy the beaches, as are kayaking and paddleboarding. St Ishmael Beach is an easy walk from the cottage through fields and along the West Coast Path.

Walking is the perfect way to explore this gorgeous part of Britain. If you love birdwatching, then you'll enjoy the 10-square-mile estuary which is a haven for dozens of species of native and migrating birds. Curlews, sandpipers and redshanks are three species frequently seen on walks beside the Gwendraeth Fawr River and Kidwelly Canal, while the Llanelli Wetland Centre is another excellent choice. Alternatively, choose a landmark like Laugharne Castle or Dryslwyn Castle as the destination for your walk. Their elevated position, chosen for its defensive properties, means they are now perfect for panoramic views.

Bring or hire a bike and explore the mountain bike trails at Brechfa Forest, the Millennium Coastal Park path, or the Celtic Cycle Trail Route 4 which passes through the farm.

Days out can include visiting places such as the Mumbles, Swansea or Rhossili Bay. You can have adventures at Oakwood or Folly Farm, go ghost hunting at Kidwelly Castle, walk around the lake at Llyn Llech Owain, or take a boat trip on Carmarthen Bay to spot seals, porpoises and other marine life.

The Old Cowshed is ideal for up to 16 people. There are five other self-catering properties on Tanylan Farm, each sleeping between four and eight guests. These can be booked together to accommodate bigger groups if you are on holiday with your extended family or a group of friends. Please see the owner's website for details.

Accommodation Comprises:

The original owner of The Old Cowshed would never recognise it now! The former farm building is a gorgeous stone property dating back to 1864 with accommodation over two levels with luxurious extras like underfloor heating.

Ground Floor:

  • Families and friends love the open-plan layout of the ground floor, with the living room, dining room and kitchen all flowing together to create one great space where everyone can socialise and have fun. A tiled floor and a solid wood staircase leading to the mezzanine level give the barn a rustic charm, while high-quality furnishings and fixtures ensure it is comfortable for contemporary guests.
  • A huge dining table is the focal point of the living area. It easily seats up to 16 people and is perfect for memorable meals with people you love.
  • Apart from the food, you'll find everything you need for self-catering in the well-equipped kitchen, which includes an electric range cooker and dishwasher for easy cleaning up.
  • Having a living room downstairs and a games room upstairs means that groups can separate if people want to do different things. French doors open from the living room onto the terrace, while stone walls and original beams help make the space feel welcoming and cosy despite its size.
  • Laundry facilities are neatly tucked away in the handy utility room.
  • Accessible wet-room with a shower, WC and a handbasin. There are grab bars and space to manoeuvre a wheelchair.
  • All but one of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. These include four twin rooms, and two spacious triple/family rooms with king-size and single beds. All of the rooms have a TV and ensuite bathroom facilities.

Mezzanine:

  • Stairs lead from the main living area to the mezzanine level where there is a fun games room with a pool table, table football, and a TV with a DVD player.
  • Further bedroom with a king-sized bed and TV. The ensuite has a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The Old Cow Shed has a paved patio with a table and chairs for outdoor barbecues. There is a hot tub, a level area of lawn, and ample off-street parking.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, sheets and bath towels are provided. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement. Short breaks are possible outside of peak season, depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted. The property is wheelchair accessible (DDA compliant).
