Coal House is spacious and welcoming with an impressive central fireplace, solid wood floors, a hot tub and accommodation over two levels. It has two bedrooms that sleep up to four people, with a comfortable sofabed in the living room that can sleep two further adults if required. Couples, families and friends all love this charming cottage which is on family-run Tanylan Farm close to Kidwelly and just 500 metres from Carmarthen Bay.
Despite its beauty, this part of the Welsh coast is remarkably quiet. Visitors tend to go to the beaches of the Gower or Pembrokeshire, bypassing this gorgeous stretch of coastline with its blend of sandy beaches and rocky bays. There is a beach for all seasons whether you spread your towel on the seven-mile stretch of Pendine Sands or prefer finding a sheltered cove for a spot of private sunbathing. There are beaches for swimming and surfing, and lots of opportunities to kayak and paddle-board either on the river or in Carmarthen Bay.
Walking around Carmarthenshire is one of the greatest pleasures of staying here. There are footpaths to suit everyone whether you want to stroll to St Ishmael beach and the village pub, about a mile from Tanylan Farm via the South West Coast Path, along the Kidwelly Canal and the Gwendraeth Fawr river, around the lake at Llyn Llech Owain, or along the Millenium Coastal Path in Llanelli. Mountain bikers also have a great choice of routes that include purpose-built trails in Brechfa Forest. The western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park is less than an hour's drive from the cottage, opening up a further array of places to walk and cycle, including the hilltop fortress and the limestone caves below Carreg Cennen Castle.
There are six golf courses within half an hour's drive of Coal House, and Carmarthen Bay is renowned for the quality of its beach fishing. Swansea is within easy reach for a day of shopping and sightseeing, or stroll around the Mumbles' upmarket boutiques before enjoying lunch in a stylish cafe. Narbeth and Tenby are both under an hour away. The former is renowned for its farmers' market and quirky shops, while the latter is a popular resort with three beaches, colourful terraced houses and a wealth of cafes.
Coal House is one of six gorgeous self-catering properties at Tanylan Farm, the biggest of which sleeps up to 16 guests. It's a fantastic place to stay if you want a holiday with extended family or friends as the cottages can, depending on availability, be booked together. Please see the owner's website for information.
