Flint Cottage is a very pretty single-storey period holiday cottage that is located in the quiet, friendly market town of Saxmundham, providing a perfect place for a relaxing break at any time of the year. It is ideally situated just four miles from Snape and eight miles from the popular coastal town of Aldeburgh - providing the ideal self-catering base to enjoy all that Suffolk and its beautiful coastline has to offer.
The area is also an excellent choice for Walking Holidays, with numerous planned out routes and it’s gentle terrain. And for Birdwatching too, with RSPB Minsmere just 6 miles away, Orford Ness approx 30 minutess drive, and several other Nature Reserves locally.
The little market town of Saxmundham sits on the River Fromus, a tributary of the River Alde and has a weekly market on a Wednesday. Here you feel like you are stepping back in time to a more relaxed pace of life.
Located just five hundred yards from the town's High Street, Flint Cottage is close to the good selection of independent shops for forgotten provisions. There is also a newsagents, stationers, bakers, chemist, hairdressers, plus two supermarkets - Waitrose and Tesco (both open seven days).
This charming town also has a Museum as well as two galleries displaying a small selection of art, along with a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and take-away outlets catering for all tastes and budgets.
The Carlton Country Park (just ten minutes walk away) provides a pleasant place for a gentle stroll and you are able to take a short bus ride or taxi to nearby Snape Maltings, Leiston or Aldeburgh for an evening at the theatre, cinema, concert or a meal.
Alternatively you may decide to stay more locally and try the “Poacher’s Pocket” - a traditional, quaint country pub serving home-cooked meals and real ales (just five minutes by car or a pleasant 30 minute walk through the Country Park).
Whether you are looking for a relaxing holiday or want to visit the many places of interest and attractions of Suffolk, this is an ideal place to spend a holiday or short break.

Flint Cottage is a traditional Suffolk flint holiday cottage that is believed to date back to around the 1800’s. Many of the lovely period features have been retained and the cottage has been renovated to provide guests with all the modern comforts and conveniences you would expect. As the cottage is single-storey, all the accommodation is on one level - with no stairs, or awkward steps.

Additional information: Prices are fully inclusive - there is nothing else to pay. All bedlinen and towels are provided. There is plenty of hanging and drawer space, plus useful items such as a hairdryer in each bedroom. Log burner is in use from beginning of November until end of March/April each year - depending upon the climate. First basket of wood provided, additional logs can be purchased locally. Short-breaks are available (2-night minimum applies) - please enquire with the owner. Maximum price is £1,095 for 7-nights (July, August, September, Christmas and New Year). Rated 4 Star GOLD by Visit England. The cottage has full gas central heating. Payment by Credit/Debit Card using secure online Portal on the owner’s website. The owner’s Booking Process includes the payment of a (returnable) Damage Deposit of £250 per property booked, which is paid by Card and returned to the same Card a few days after Departure providing no deductions are necessary. Full Terms & Conditions are on the owner’s website. The owner also welcomes Business Travellers, and longer stays.
DOGS GO FREE! There is no additional charge(s) for accommodating your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or other small companion dog(s) which are clean and well-behaved ‘family pets’, and they will be made very welcome.
For full occupancy, the guide is ... no more than about 14 inches (35 cm) in height (to the shoulder) or 9-10 kg in weight, and no more lively than a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
When there is less than maximum occupancy there may be more flexibility in the size of dog(s) which can be accommodated - up to about 20cm in height and 20kg in weight. Contact the owner for more info. Please ring to check before booking if you are not sure. Dogs have to be ‘Checked-In’ on Arrival. Please note that, for the benefit of the human guests, there is a ‘no toileting in the property’ policy. The Holiday Cottages are Period properties and are not suitable for large, lively or boisterous breeds of dog. There is more information on the Owner’s website.
Transport: The area has a very good public transport system and there is a direct service from London Liverpool Street to Saxmundham station, taking approximately one and a half hours, making this an ideal location for those who do not want to bring the car.
Changeover day: Friday or Saturday for weekly bookings. Friday or Monday for Short Breaks.
Parking is on the road - outside the cottage. It’s usually possible to park right outside the front gate, but if not a few yards in either direction. Being single-storey Flint Cottage has a wide frontage, so it’s usually easy to park right outside the cottage. Saxmundham is a small town and the cottage is in a quiet residential street.
