About Chapel Cottage

Chapel Cottage is a lovely period holiday cottage that is located in the quiet, friendly market town of Saxmundham, providing a perfect place for a relaxing break at any time of the year. It is ideally situated just four miles from Snape Maltings and eight miles from the popular coastal town of Aldeburgh - providing the ideal base to enjoy all that Suffolk and its beautiful coastline has to offer. It's perfect for romantic getaways for couples, 'me-time' holidays alone, and for walkers or bird watchers.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing holiday, want to visit the many places of interest and attractions of Suffolk, or are planning a trip to Suffolk for its excellent golf courses or Nature Reserves/Bird Sanctuaries, this is an ideal place to spend a holiday or short break.

Saxmundham is a historic market-town on the old Coaching route from Lowestoft to London, with pretty Georgian and Victorian cottages and shops.

Located just five hundred yards from the High Street, Chapel Cottage is close to the good selection of interesting independent shops to browse. There is also a newsagents, stationers, bakers, chemist, hairdressers, pet shop plus two supermarkets - Waitrose and Tesco (both open seven days). This charming town even has its own Museum and two small art galleries, along with a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and take-away outlets catering for all tastes and budgets.

Evening meal recommendations include... The Bell (in the High Street, five mins walk away) - the food is excellent and so reasonably priced! Plus, “Poacher’s Pocket” - a traditional, quaint country pub serving home-cooked meals and real ales (just five minutes by car or a pleasant thirty minute walk through the Country Park).

Excellent Public Transport links provide easy access by train or bus to all places of interest, including: the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, the pretty riverside town of Woodbridge, the castles at Orford and Framlingham, the RSPB Minsmere and other Nature Reserves.

Location (Suffolk)

Chapel Cottage is a traditional Suffolk flint-fronted holiday cottage that is believed to date back to around the 1800’s. The cottage has been renovated to provide guests with all the modern comforts and conveniences you would expect and has many period-style features to add interest. It is quite small, but very lovely and is suitable for a single person or couple. Sorry - no pets, or children (including infants), and no smoking inside the cottage. The stairs are quite steep (there is a handrail), so it may not be suitable for guests with any mobility problems.

Accommodation and facilities comprise:

  • Open-plan living space which incorporates the sitting room/diner and the (small) kitchen area. Stairs lead up to the bedroom and bathroom, both on the first floor.
  • For rainy days or lazy afternoons there is a small library of books, DVDs and board-games on the bookcase.
The flat-screen SmartTV is WiFi enabled, so you can also get Catch-Up TV such as BBC iPlayer as well as Freeview extra channels and Radio stations. It also plays DVD's and music CDs.
  • The kitchen, albeit small, is equipped with all essentials - including oven, hob, microwave and a (small) fridge/freezer. There is plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery, along with other useful items, plus initial supplies of tea, coffee, etc. Plus a Tassimo coffee machine.
  • Double bedroom with 4’ (small double) pine bedframe and sprung mattress with memory foam top.
  • Bathroom with short (5') bath and shower attachment over the bath, toilet, plus mirror and shaver-light over the basin.

Outside: There is a small courtyard with a table and two chairs for warm weather.

Additional information: Prices are fully inclusive - there is nothing else to pay. All bedlinen and towels are provided. There is hanging and drawer space in the bedroom, plus a hairdryer. For longer stays, a (separate outbuilding) laundry unit can be made available with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Short-breaks may be available - please enquire with the owner. Rated 4* Self-Catering by Visit Britain. The cottage has central heating. Credit/DebitCard (via WorldPay) accepted, either over the phone/in person, or by secure weblink from WorldPay. The owner’s Booking Process includes the completion of a Booking Form (with name, address, contact telephone numbers and dates of stay, etc.) and payment of a (returnable) Damage Deposit of £250 per property booked, which is paid by Card via WorldPay and returned to the same Card within 7 days after Departure. Full Terms & Conditions are in the owner’s website. The owner also welcomes Business Travellers.

PETS GO FREE! There is no additional charge(s) for accommodating your dog(s). Small, Toy or miniature breeds which are clean and well-behaved ‘family pets’ are made very welcome. A guide is ... no more than about 14 inches (35 cm) in height (to the shoulder) or 9-10 kg in weight, and no more lively than a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. (Please ring to check before booking if you are not sure. Dogs have to be ‘Checked-In’ on Arrival, and there is a ‘no toileting in the property’ rule.) The Holiday Cottages are Period properties and are not suitable for bigger or boisterous breeds of dog. So, sorry but your dog cannot be accommodated if it is, for example, a Collie, Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Springer Spaniel, or similar. There is more information on the Owner’s website: https://www.allseasonscottagebreaks.com/pets

Transport: The area has a very good public transport system and there is a direct service from London Liverpool Street to Saxmundham station, taking approximately one and a half hours, making this an ideal location for those who do not want to bring the car.

Parking is on the road - usually opposite the Cottage. Saxmundham is a small town and the cottage is in a quiet residential street.
