3 Riverside Cottage has everything couples and families need for a relaxing self-catering cottage holiday in the Peak District. The three-bedroom property is one of three and can be booked on its own to sleep six people, or together with one or both of the others to accommodate groups of up to 18 extended family members or friends. The bustling market town of Bakewell together with its excellent choice of cafes, pubs and restaurants is a mere five-minute stroll from the door, although the walk is so picturesque that you may find it takes longer as you stop to admire the view or feed the ducks.
Bakewell is so picturesque you'd think it was the figment of a travel blogger's imagination. Set beside the River Wye, the town was around long before the Domesday Book and its Monday market, which has been a regular event since 1330, attracts over 100 stallholders selling food, crafts, clothing and those things you never knew you needed. It doesn't matter if you miss the market day, because Bakewell has a wide choice of independent retailers and a supermarket. Make sure you try the famous Bakewell Pudding while you're here - there's nothing like it!
There is a wealth of places to see and things to do within only a small radius of Bakewell. The splendid Chatsworth House and its estate is a short drive from the cottage, with a jaw-dropping collection of art, beautiful gardens, shops, farmyard and playground. Lovers of historic buildings should also make time to see Haddon Hall as well as to wander around the nearby spa town of Buxton with its elegant Georgian buildings.
Walking and cycling are two favourite activities for both locals and visitors, but there is also fishing, golf, horse riding, climbing, bird watching and spotting wildlife. One of the neighbours is the Thornbridge Brewery who offer twice-weekly tours, or take a tour of a different kind on Peak Rail's vintage trains. Matlock Spa, the Heights of Abraham, Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers are all within reach for a fun day out, as is Carsington Water Reservoir.
The Peak District National Park shines no matter what the season or the weather to make it a fantastic holiday destination for everyone at any time of the year.
