2 Lumford House is in a picturesque spot beside the River Wye on the edge of Bakewell. It's beautifully presented for a self-catering holiday in the Peak District, sleeping six people in three bedrooms with two bathrooms and a layout that works for families and friends. If you're looking for a Peak District holiday cottage with lots of space, charming views, and decor in a contemporary country style, you'll love it here. You can walk from the property into the centre of Bakewell in 5-10 minutes to find a good variety of cafes, traditional pubs serving tasty meals, and shops.
There's nowhere better than Bakewell if you want to enjoy the finest sights and attractions the Peak District can offer. Whilst not as fancy as the spa town of Buxton, where you'll find upmarket boutiques, an opera house, and spa facilities, it will win you over with its olde-worlde charm, and independent shops. There is a busy Monday market boasting over 160 stalls selling local food and drink and almost everything else you can imagine! Bakewell is famous for its pudding and tart. The pudding dates back to the 1800s, with the tart following 200 years later. Both are delicious and an excellent way to replenish the energy used during a busy day of exploration.
One of the Peak District's most beloved attractions, Chatsworth House, is just a few miles from your holiday cottage. It is easily recognisable from films like Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess, but the house and its 35,000-acre estate are far more beautiful in real life. Allow yourself a day to explore the gardens, admire the breathtaking collections, enjoy the farmyard and playground, and choose souvenirs from the shop. Other stately homes in the Peak District include Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall, and Calke Abbey.
Wander west along the River Wye to Ashford-in-the-Water, passing Thornbridge Brewery. The traffic-free Monsal Trail is mainly flat and can be used by hikers, cyclists and horse riders. Wonder at the subterranean beauty of Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern, Blue John Cavern, and Poole's Cavern, the latter of which has delighted visitors since Tudor times. The Peak District is a feast for the senses in all seasons, offering something to suit all ages and interests.
