About The Comb Farmhouse

The Comb Farmhouse is on the private 60-acre Comb Reivers Estate in the Tarset Valley surrounded by Kielder Forest and the Northumberland National Park. Imagine your ideal country holiday cottage and you get somewhere close to the high standard of accommodation your family can expect when you stay at this traditional stone farmhouse. It sleeps six people in three bedrooms. The owner has used high-quality furnishings, natural textures, and a colour palette that reflects the spectacular surroundings of this romantically wild corner of the Scotland/England border country.

The Tarset Valley views are incredible during the day and the dark skies breathtaking at night. It's a fantastic place for walking, whether you are a hiker, rambler, or you love a relaxed meander. Follow the Reivers Trail, the Sidwood Trail, the Bastle Trail, a stretch of the Pennine Way, or the paths around Greenhaugh. You'll barely see another soul as you explore, giving you the sense of being the only person for miles and the pleasure of enjoying the hidden picnic and swimming spots to yourself. You're only a few miles from Kielder Water and Forest Park, with its many attractions including water sports, lakeview footpaths and cycle routes. Kielder is a favourite with mountain bikers for its extensive network of trails and for nature lovers who come to spot the ospreys and red squirrels that thrive in this peaceful and protected environment.

Attractions near The Comb Farmhouse include Black Middens Bastle, Hareshaw Linn, Bellingham Heritage Centre, and Hadrian's Wall or day trips to the gorgeous beaches of the Northumberland coast, Alnwick Castle or Cragside. You can fish for salmon and trout on the River Rede and Sweethope Loughs, play golf at Bellingham, Hawick or Hexham and there is usually something fun or exciting happening like an agricultural show or a festival.

The Comb Farmhouse sits on 60 acres of private land with beautiful views from the house and super walking and mountain biking routes from the door. Bookings are available all year round, depending on availability.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Comb Farmhouse is part of the main estate but separate from the barn and lodge. Accommodation is over two levels with private gardens.

Upstairs:

  • Open plan living space with a kitchen, dining space and seating area flowing smoothly under a vaulted ceiling. The modern kitchen features high-quality appliances and a big island worktop, with the wood of the island and dining table complementing the oak beams and stripped wood floor.
  • South facing windows offer lots of natural light and great views of the natural amphitheatre of the Tarset Valley. At night, leave them open with the lights off and the log burner lit to enjoy the incredible views of the Dark Sky Reserve from the comfort of a traditional leather Chesterfield sofa.
  • Shower room.

Downstairs:

  • Bedrooms are downstairs, with lovely rural views, original oak beams, and timber floors with underfloor heating.
  • Guests in the master bedroom have a king-sized bed and ample storage. The original stone inglenook fireplace now houses a chest of drawers and there is a coordinating wardrobe and dressing table.
  • There are two other bedrooms, one king-size and the other with two single beds. All three bedrooms overlook the garden and surrounding countryside.
