Mallard Lodge is a gorgeous holiday home in Arkholme near Kirkby Londsdale. Fantastic features include views of the lake, water views, and an outdoor hot tub. It sleeps four people in two bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, so it is ideal for couples, friends or families. The lodge is part of Redwell Park, where there are five acres of fishing lakes with excellent coarse fishing. The owners have a choice of other self-catering holiday properties on-site, and these can be booked together to accommodate extended families or groups of friends. Please see the owner's website for details.
Redwell Park is in a wonderful location for exploring the Forest of Bowland AONB, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lake District National Park, and the Arnside and Silverdale AONB. Within walking, cycling or short driving distance is virtually any outdoor activity you can imagine. Walking and mountain biking are year-round favourites, but guests can also go climbing, caving, and scuba diving. Play a round of golf or set sail on Morecambe Bay.
The nearest place for basic provisions is Carnforth, 10-minute car ride and offering three supermarkets, takeaways and chemists. Further amenities and shops are eight miles away in Kirkby Lonsdale. This lively market town is a great place to get groceries and hire bikes and other sports equipment you may need. It's incredibly picturesque with sights like Devil's Bridge, St Mary's Church and Ruskin's View. An alternate place to shop, grab a coffee or have lunch is Lancaster. The small city has a wide choice of places to eat, drink and shop, as well as a castle infamous for its witch trials.
Attractions to visit include the Warton Crag nature reserve, the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, and the beautiful coastline and beaches of Morecambe Bay. The RSPB Leighton Moss Nature Reserve is always popular for bird watching, so bring your binoculars if you're a keen twitcher. Guests who want to push themselves can tackle the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks challenge and climb Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough within 12 hours, although climbing even one of these mountains is an impressive accomplishment.
Kendal, Windermere and the southern lakes are around half an hour's drive or keep going north, and you'll reach Ullswater in under an hour. With so much on the doorstep, it's not surprising that Mallard Lodge is a year-round favourite.
