Dovecote Apartment is a welcoming one-bedroom holiday home in the tranquil grounds of Redwell Park in Arkholme near Kirkby Lonsdale. The park features beautiful grounds that include five acres of fishing lakes, and is a mile and a half from Over Kellett and the friendly Eagle's Head pub. The gorgeous Lancashire countryside is easily accessible with miles of footpaths and cycling routes from the door. Coarse fishing is included with the hire of the apartment, and there is also secure bike storage for guests who wish to bring their own bikes. Dovecote has one bedroom with a flexible layout that suits couples or independent visitors.
Redwell Park could not be in a better location for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors. It's right over the border of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the Arnside and Silverdale AONB with its stunning stretch of coastline facing Morecambe Bay. As if that wasn't enough to keep you happily entertained for days, Dovecote Apartment and Redwell Park are within half an hour's drive of both the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park. Visitors have an enormous variety of activities to enjoy including fishing, walking, mountain biking, climbing, caving, horse riding, golf, and scuba diving.
Grocery shopping for your self-catering holiday is as simple as a short 10-minute drive into Carnforth which offers three supermarkets, takeaways and chemists. The picturesque market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is also within driving distance and packed with amenities, shops and places to eat and drink. Take some time to walk around town and appreciate the beauty immortalised in poetry by John Ruskin and art by JMW Turner. Walk down Salt Pie Lane, sit awhile at Ruskin's View, and cross the Devil's Bridge. Nearby, the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is four miles of spectacular scenery, or head underground into White Scar Cave and discover the subterranean beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.
Fifteen minutes away, the county town of Lancaster also has a wide variety of facilities and shops. A little known fact is that the Duke of Lancaster is always the reigning monarch, and the town has royal links going back to 1267 and King Henry III. The castle's long history includes the infamous Pendle Witch Trails in 1612.
Day trips can include tackling the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks' immense challenge by climbing Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Take your binoculars to the RSPB Leighton Moss or the Warton Crag nature reserves, take a boat tour around Windermere or Ullswater. Alternatively, settle back in your fishing chair and enjoy the calming surrounds of Redwell Park. Dovecote Apartment is one of several self-catering properties which you can book together to accommodate extended families or friends. Please see the owner's website for details.
