Beach Cottage sits just 30 yards from the sands of Luce Bay in the small village of Sandhead, where life moves at a gentler pace and the sea is never far from view. Sleeping four across two bedrooms, it’s the kind of place that’s easy to settle into from the moment you arrive. The beach is so close you’ll likely wander down without thinking about it- first thing with a coffee, or later on as the light starts to soften over the water. Inside, the cottage has been thoughtfully updated, keeping things simple, comfortable and practical. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, and the enclosed garden at the back means you can relax outside without keeping an eye on the gate. Just along the road, the Tigh-Na-Mara is a reliable spot for a meal or a drink, with a friendly, unfussy feel that suits the village.
Sandhead is the sort of place people tend to stumble across and then return to. There's a small village shop for essentials, a beach that stretches on far longer than you'd expect, and a sense that nothing needs to be rushed. On warmer days, families gather by the shore, and children drift between the sand and the nearby play area. Out of season, it’s quieter still, with wide open space and the sound of the tide rolling in and out. You can walk for miles here without seeing more than a handful of people, which is part of the appeal.
Further afield, this corner of Dumfries and Galloway opens up in all directions. The Mull of Galloway is an easy drive, with its lighthouse, cliff-top paths and the chance of spotting seabirds along the coast. Inland, the landscape shifts to forest and hills, with Galloway Forest Park offering walking and cycling routes, as well as famously dark skies once the sun goes down. There are gardens to visit if you fancy a slower day (Logan Botanic Garden and Glenwhan are both nearby) and small places like Portpatrick where you can stop for lunch by the harbour before heading back along the coast. It’s not a busy part of Scotland, and that's very much the point.

There is an enclosed garden at the rear of the cottage, offering a secure space for children and dogs. It's a pleasant spot to sit out in the evening or enjoy a quiet morning coffee after a walk along the beach. On-street parking is free and plentiful.
Additional Information: The owner is happy to welcome dogs by prior arrangement, subject to a small additional charge. WiFi, bed linen, bath towels and electricity are included. Guests will need to bring beach towels and, if required, dog beds and towels. Beach Cottage is a non-smoking property.
